New TOYOTA RAV4 PHEV 2026 – 320 HP PLUG-IN HYBRID in details (FIRST LOOK)

Here’s something that might shock you. Toyota just killed off the regular gas engine in America’s bestselling SUV. That’s right. The 2026 RAV4 is now hybrid only, and the plug-in version is packing some serious heat with 320 horsepower. I’m getting my first look at the all-new 6th generation RAV4, and Toyota has made some bold moves that could change everything. After spending time with this completely redesigned SUV, I can tell you there’s way more here than meets the eye. Let’s start with what everyone’s talking about. The plug-in hybrid system is no longer called the RAV 4 Prime. It’s just the RAV 4 plug-in hybrid now. And it comes in four different trim levels instead of the previous two. We’re looking at the SE, XSSE, Woodland, and the brand new GR Sport that I’m absolutely dying to get behind the wheel of. The numbers are impressive. All plug-in models pump out 320 horsepower through standard all-wheel drive, which is an 18 horsepower bump from before. Toyota claims 0 to 60 happens in just 5.6 seconds, making this one seriously quick family hauler. But here’s where it gets interesting. The electric only range has jumped from 42 mi to a manufacturer estimated 50 mi, giving you legitimate daily driving without burning a drop of gas. Inside, Toyota has stepped up their game significantly. The base trim gets a 10.5 in touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a 12.3 in digital instrument cluster. Higher trims bump up to a 12.9 in infotainment screen, and there’s an available head-up display for the first time. The materials feel more premium, and the overall layout is much more intuitive than before. Now, here’s the game changer. Select XSSE and Woodland trims get DC fast charging capability. Yes, you heard that right. This plug-in hybrid can charge from 10 to 80% in about 30 minutes at a CCS fast charging station. That’s EV level convenience in a hybrid package. And honestly, I’ve never seen anything quite like it. The regular hybrid isn’t sitting still either. The base system now makes 226 horsepower in front-wheel drive form or 236 with all-wheel drive. That’s 23 more horses than the old base engine it replaces. And Toyota has completely eliminated the conventional four-cylinder option. Let’s talk design because Toyota has given this thing a complete makeover. The front end is more aggressive with a wider grill and sharper LED headlights. The profile is cleaner with better aerodynamics, and the rear gets a more vertical lift gate that actually improves cargo space. It’s not revolutionary, but it’s definitely more modern and streamlined than the outgoing generation. The GR Sport model is where things get spicy. This thing sits on 20-in wheels with summer tires. Gets track inspired tuning for the power steering and suspension, plus reinforced chassis bracing. The wing is particularly eye-catching, and those red accents throughout the interior let you know this isn’t your average grocery getter. Inside, Toyota has stepped up their game significantly. The base trim gets a 10.5 in touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a 12.3 in digital instrument cluster. Higher trims bump. Thanks for watching.
