2026 Denza B8 | BYD’s New Luxury Brand Denza

Toyota Land Cruiser Nissen Patrol. Watch out because this is the plug-in hybrid Denza B8 and it’s coming for you. This B8 is one of two cars being launched by BYD’s luxury Denza subbrand with the other being the B5 which is a rival to the smaller Toyota Land Cruiser Prao. It’s a seven seat upper large SUV which is 165 mm longer than the Land Cruiser with a 70 mm longer wheelbase and is more powerful than its V6 turbo diesel. The B8 uses a 2 L 4 cylinder turbo petrol engine combined with a 36.8 kWh battery and two electric motors producing 450 kW and 760 Nm for allhe drive. It’s a body-onframe SUV with a chassis that’s shared with a Shark 6. The B8 features as standard height adjustable air suspension, 310 mm of ground clearance, auto front, rear, and center locking diffs, a massive spare wheel on the tailgate, and flush door handles. Payload and towing have also been increased compared to the Chinese domestic market, up to 700 kilos and 3,500 kilos, respectively. Driving range is claimed to be 100 km running on electric power alone with a total of,200 km combined. At the moment, we don’t have its for Australian specification. But so far, we know the Denza B86S grade has a 17.3 in touchscreen, a 12.3 in digital instrument cluster, 18 speaker sound system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Nappa leather upholstery, laminated soundproof glass, soft closing doors, and 16 selectable drive modes. It also has a cool box under the center armrest, dual wireless chargers, a panoramic sunroof, faux suede headlining, and a 360° camera. In the six seat version, there’s heaps of room here in front of me and above my head. There’s less room in the third row, but it’s still okay for short journeys. You can only fit two child seats because in the captain’s chairs, you’ve got two top tethers in the second row, but none in the third. The boot with the third row up is rated to provide 166 L of space, which swells to 1130 L with the third row folded. Today, we’ve been on gravel. We’ve been up and down steep descents and we’ve also been through water. Through all of that, the Denza BA is handling itself beautifully. Onroad, the ride is a little bit jittery and a little bit bumpy and also a little bit rolling in the corners because it is quite a large vehicle. While there’s not much road noise coming up from the tires, there is a fair amount of wind noise even at speeds that aren’t really that high. Acceleration in the Denza BA is swift. Putting your foot down, it does go. The seats are really nice, actually. Very comfortable to sit in. It’s a pretty impressive vehicle, though. It’ll be really interesting to see what the price is to see how well it competes. So, what do you think? Has it got what it takes to unseat the champ?
