Comparing the Lynk &co 900, Zeekr 9x and the BYD Yangwang U8L
Hi everyone, welcome to the Electric Moto GP show. My name is Ni and I’m your usual host. And today I’m playing catchup. And for that, I’m going to do you guys a solid. I’m going to be talking to you about the plug-in hybrids are going to be available very soon in different markets around the world, but have already been launched in China. So stick with this and this episode is one that you’re bound to enjoy. So, the premium larger SUV segment is one that is properly blown up in 2025 with every single um company trying to outdo one another in terms of spec, in terms of what is coming out with each one, and in terms of exactly what they want to do and bring out. The only problem is which one’s going to be the best one. The Sydney Eevee show is going to be happening from the 10th theater of October till the 2nd of November. If you look in the description below, you’ll see links for a bug off deal and you should be able to use that to to get your buy 1 get one free. So, you’ve got to be living under a rock for you to have missed the fact that the Ziki 9X came out and within an hour or so got 40,000 orders. Now, the Ziki 9X, I showed you uh clips of it when we went to China. And in going to China, we were able to look at how luxurious it was. And I did get you to have a look at the linker code 900, which is one of the contenders in this particular segment. And one of the reasons why I wanted to do this video and I was waiting patiently. Now, I should have done a video for you when the Zika 9X got launched, but unfortunately, I had to have some health issues sorted out. And one of the things I’m going to try and tell everyone who subscribes to this channel is please get your skin checks done on a regular basis. Um, skin cancers do exist and it’s very easy for them to be missed. If you find something new on your body that has not been looked at, please get your doctor to have a look at it and sometimes it’s just a straightforward biopsy to figure out what it is. And if they’ve biopsies done, uh, it gives you a bit of insight as to what’s going on and it might be the thing that saves your lives or prolongs your life. um health service announcement. So that’s why I didn’t give you the video on on the um Zika 9X. I had a few things going on, but I’m back. I’m okay. Everything’s all good. So, let’s move on. The Zika 9 X launched to a lot of fanfare and there is a lot to be said about that car. The car in itself is premium at its best. Um you’ve got fast charging on a plugging hybrid. you’ve got um issues um with you’ve got decent battery size with it. You’ve got capable electric motors in there. You’ve got significant amount of tech all built in. Now, the competition in this segment is crazy. And I’m not joking when I say the competition in this segment is crazy. This segment has got the U8L from Yang Wang. This segment has got the Lincoln Co 900. This segment has got the Denza N8L which was also launched in the same week as the Ziki 9X. This segment has got the BYD Tangal, the um plug-in hybrid version of it. And the Zika 9X as a for mentioned now all of them FL um are definitely plug-in hybrids or ERVs to a large extent. Next year is even going to be worse because Julie’s got more coming out. They’re going to be plug-in hybrid in this segment. Um, Xbang has got plans in this segment as well. So, you’ve got plans for the plug-in hybrid version of the G6, plug-in hybrid version of the G7, plug-in hybrid versions of the G9, all coming out next year. Um, so this space is going to be really, really interesting. Now, for those of you who’ve watched the different videos I’ve done, I’ve always mentioned the fact that one of the problems with the plug-in hybrid system is the fact that you’ve got a little battery and the DC fast charging is usually poor. And oh my gosh, did the Zika 9X blow that out of the park. So the Zika 9X came up with the concept of similar to the Xbangs um uh Kundon system in which you’ve got a large battery with the proper fast charging present in there with a lot of tech to to back it up. The interior of all these cars are phenomenal. Now, I’m going to be honest with you. My favorite interior of all of these cars is the Linker CO 900, but the Zika 9X has got a few things right. So, you’ve got a double 16inch screen up front with a 17in screen that actually glides forwards and backwards depending on what the need of the people in the car is, which is great to say the least. And all of them all of them can do somewhere between 900 to 1,500 kilometers on the CLTC uh CLTC cycle which will put you roughly about uh 1,300 on on all of them or 1,100 um in WLTP real life range for most of them you’ll be getting 1,000 km on a single charge with a full battery. But the beauty of it is this. you now have a situation where almost all of them have got a minimum of about a 40 to 50 kilowatt hour battery as standard and then you then have the more premium versions going to 60 to 70 kW batteries in there. So basically what they’re trying to say now is that you will get somewhere between 150 to 250 km WLTP on all of them. This is going to be fun. So, the idea that you’ve got this big heavyduty six-seater 7-seater car that you can plug in at night, get it fully charged and it would take you 200, 300 km, which is about your roughly about a week to 4 days for most people. School runs, all the other things you want to do, you can do it in with the with the electric battery. And if you’ve got the um an EV charging option or or an EV um plan in your house, all of a sudden it’s a game changer. So the video that dropped before this, I was telling you that I just signed up to the EV plan uh for WA, which meant that nighttime you get about 19 kW. In the super off peak, off peak you get about 29 kW. And then you’ve got peak and different things as well, which then means that roughly if you were charging a 70 kWh battery, uh you’d be charging for about $15. So when these cars come in and if you use them in the plug um plug-in hybrid mode, most um in the air battery electric mode, most of the time, you will rarely need to use your electric battery unless you’re going on a range. and uh at Greg Davis who’s uh been putting a lot of cheeky comments about my about the range test we did to uh Jurian Bay. Uh this solves the problem. So I wouldn’t have to panic about range with this because I know that even if there was no charges the petrol engine will kick in and we’ll will charge the battery will definitely mean going to places like Juran Bay which is about 250 230 km from from Perth going and coming is 460 well below the half halfway mark of of the combination cycle of this car. So, we’re going to do a head-to-head and I want I want this is one head-to-head I’ve been looking forward to doing. Now, it was supposed to be the Denza N8 that was supposed to be part of this head-to-head and that was the plan in April. But because the N8L is out, uh we’re going to replace the Denzer N8 with the N8L, which is the latest version of the um plug-in hybrid from from Denza. We’re going to do use the BYD tang L which is the latest version of the Tang from from the from the BYYD stable and we’re going to use the link co 900 which is the flagship from Lincoln Co in this segment and we’re going to replace the BYD Yang Wang U8 with the Yang Wuang U8L. So therefore we’ve standardized across all specs. So using the 2025 models for all the cars and we’re going to be able to go forward and then provide you with the correct information for each and every one of them. So how are we going to do this head-to-head? We’re going to talk about the specifications in terms of the powertrain. And that’s talking about what type of power is it? A plug-in hybrid proper or is it HV? The difference between a plug-in hybrid and a and avy actually the petrol motor does move the car. Whereas with the ERV, it doesn’t move the car. It just charges the battery. So, we’re going to look at things like the uh the drive train. Is it all-wheel drive? How many electric motors has it got? What’s the size of the petrol engine there’s in there? What’s the battery capacity in there? What’s the electric only range? What’s the combined cycle range? Um, how well does it drive? Does he have air suspension in it? What are the tech and geeky specs on the inside of the cars? And which car would you want to pick in this segment? Now, I’m going to have a varying um ideology about what I want from my car than what you want from your car, but what I will give you is the is the opportunity to figure out what it is that you’re looking for. So, the first thing we need to look at is all of them are PHEVs mostly. The only one that’s slightly different is the U8L, which is predominantly designed to be an ERV, but does have the capacity to work as a PHEV as well. They are all all-wheel drive with the exception of the N8L which is which has the top spec has got three motors. Um the top spec of the Yang Wang U8L has got quad motors. Um the the rest of them are they only have two electric motors, one in the front and one on the rear. Um combined power, this is where things start to get a little bit interesting. So, the Tangel has got 400 kW in there, which is decent. Do not get me wrong. The 400 uh kW is pretty damn good. Excuse my French. It’s pretty powerful. Does give you a lot of power. The acceleration is great. The handling is meant to be great. I haven’t driven it, but from from people that I have and other reviews that I’ve read, it’s pretty good. Now, the N8 uh has 560 kW. The Lincoln Co. 900 has got 540 kW. The Yanguang U8 is mental u correction has got 880 kW and the Zika 9X has got 665 kW. So combined that’s a lot of power. What does that tell us in terms of power? Let’s look at the torque and then we then look at the acceleration. So the torque on the Tangel is 670. The torque on the N8 hell is supposed to be about 780 or 800. Uh I’m I’m sorry. I’ve got it a bit modeled up at the moment. The torque for the Link Co 900 is 1,038 Newton meters. The torque on the U8L is 1,280 and the torque on the um 9X is 1,150, which tells you that the UAL is is killing it on a different level in here. So battery capacity is where things start to get where you start to segregate the big boys um from from from from the regular boys. Now the Tang 8L I again goes back to what I was talking about BYD and not specking their their cars in such a way to make them really really um appealing in the in the hybrid space. Um the Tang 8 um the Tang L has got 35.6 kW on the with and comes with the lithium ion for battery. The N8L comes with a 46.99 which is actually 50 kWh battery but 46.99 usable LFP battery as well. The Lincoln Co 900 the base pack comes in with a 52.4 kW 55 kWh battery. The Yang Wang U8 comes with a 50 kW 55 kWh battery but a 49 uh 49.5 kW reusable. But the biggest one of all of this is the um Zikas 9X which comes with a 70 kilowatt battery in its top spec with the 67 kilowatt hour NMC battery usable. What does this mean in terms of range? The Tangl is capable of doing um only electric 215 km on the CLTC cycle. The NAL is doing capable of doing 220 on the CLTC cycle. The Link Co 900 is capable of doing 250 on the uh CLTC cycle. The Yang Wuang U8L is capable of doing 180 km on the CLTC cycle. And the Zika 9X is capable of doing 310 on the CLTC cycle. So that tells you that basically this car will be capable of doing most of your week on the charges. And if you’re coming in number nine and you’re plugging in and you’ll be able to do most of your week without having any hassles. Speed, my favorite bit and I’ve learned my lesson and I but I’m still a fan of it and I one of these days I’ll tell you a reason why I’m still a fan of it. But 0 to 100 the Tang L 0 to 100 4.3 seconds officially. I haven’t tested it so I can’t give you the unofficial sec um speed. The N8L 0 to 100 3.2 2 seconds. So, that’s a lot of power. Um, the Lincoln Code 900 to 100 4.2 seconds. The Yang Wang U8L 0 to 100 3.6 seconds. And the Zika 9X 0 to 100 is uh 3.6 seconds. Now, I’m going to pause here for a moment. The video is uh of the uh Zika 9X uh on a racetrack with Ferraris, Lambos, and they’re doing uh quartermile uh dash and the Zika 9X peeps all of them to the finish line. This is despite the fact that it’s bigger. This is despite the fact that it’s significantly heavier. It’s about 2.6 ton. Um this is despite the fact that it’s less aerodynamic. That just lets you know that when it comes to electric cars at the moment, uh there is little most of the um legacy automakers and the legacy sports makers can can really do. They’re going to have to get on board with the program because unfortunately I’m not the one that coined this term, but it’s one term that I completely agree with. The Chinese have democratized horsepower. Horsepower used to be a thing that you had to be wealthy, and I don’t mean rich. I mean wealthy to be able to get anything decent. So look at it from this perspective. If you wanted a Ferrari that could do 500 horsepower or an Aston Martin that could do 500 horsepower or you wanted a Lamborghini that could be that could do 500 horsepower, you’d be looking to spend in the region of about 400 to 500,000 Australian dollars and all the way up to about a million if no more. Just think about the fact that the conse of this world, the the Bugattis of this world all start above a million dollars US. And if you think about it, the the Bugatti Chiron is $3.5 million US and does 1,500 horsepower. The BYD U9 regular edition, not track edition. Regular edition cost 150 to 200,000. It’s got over 1,000 horsepower. The Track Edition um Ultra has 2,800 2,900 horsepower and now holds the record of being the fastest car on the planet. And then I saw another video which I I’ll talk to you about in in that video where someone said the theoretical top speed of that car is well over 550 theoretical. But anyways that’s a that’s a digress from from this particular episode. Top speed of all the cars. Um the BYD Tangal has got a top speed of 180 km/h. The Denza N8 has got a top speed of 200 km/h. The Lincoln Co. 900 has got a top speed of 240 km/h. The Yang Wang U8L has got a top speed of 200 km/h. And the Zika 9X has got a top speed of 240 km/h. So honestly, these cars are big, heavy, and they can speed. So, for those of you who are thinking, I’m not sure. This is a different segment, babe. This is a different kettle of fish. This is what the future is holding for all of us, and we we’ve got to get used to it. Um, DC fast charging. Same problem with BYD. It hasn’t gotten better yet. Um, I’m hoping it will, but it hasn’t. Now, the BEV version of the Tangal can do a thousand kilowatt fast charging, but for some reason, the Tangel BE version for 2025 has only got 90 kWh fast charging. This car is going to be obsolete in in 12 to 24 months as soon as the the X-bangs and the the Leo are faster for their for for the DC fast charging. So, it kind of tells you where why BYD’s uh sales numbers in their in their plug-in hybrids has been has been tanking. Um, the Denza N8L not much better. DC fast charging is 90 kW as well. Put that into context of the fact that the Lincoln Co 900 DC fast charging is 200 kW. put into context of the fact that the the flagship the biggest most expensive car that um BYD have got is the Yang UNL has only got 110 kW fast charging and then put that into context of the of the Zika 9X which also has 200 kW fast charging. I I I I don’t know mate. I don’t know. And I’m still of the firm opinion. If any car you want to buy in 2025 cannot charge a 150, skip it. I’m honest. If it cannot charge a 150, skip it. If they haven’t put in an 800 volt architecture, even if it’s a plug-in hybrid, skip it. That That’s my honest opinion. It’s my opinion. You can choose to accept it or not, but that’s my opinion. if it if it’s not doing 150, skip it because the bottom line is that car is not going to be as valuable in about 24 months. I’m like I’ve said to you before, the all the new cars, all the ERVs coming out from Xbank in 2026 are going to be 5C, which means they will be able to charge at close to 400 to 500 kW. So why BYD is still coming out with stuff that is 110 90 kilowatts? Are the cars beautiful? Awesome. Yeah, absolutely. Do they have the specs? Yes. Are the interiors completely lush? Yes. Should you buy it? Yes. But will it be obsolete? Yes. So if you love it, go for it. But if the the reality of it is that the charging speeds are not great. They’re not. The Link Co, the Ziki 9X, they absolutely kill all the BYDs in this particular um um assessment on the charging speeds. The charging speeds are all great. Do they match up on the interior? Yes. If you look in the interior of the Yang U8L, the fridges, the the Nappa leather, the speaker systems, the Zika 9X Han, true story, you can look this up. I’m not fibbing. It’s got name speakers. Now, when I say name, I mean N A I M. Prior to Ziker, I don’t know how they managed this, what they said, what they did. The only cars that had NIM speakers, name speakers in them were Bentleys. So if you’re buying a Zika 9X, the speaker system is the same speaker system in a Bentley. What the heck? And that’s where the price comes in. The top spec of the Zika 9X is coming in about $90,000. It’s cheaper than the Yanguan U8L. It’s cheaper than the Linko 900 because the top spec of the Linko 900 is $60,000. Um, it’s cheaper than the um, no, those are the two cars that it’s cheaper than. The Denza N8 is about 60,000 USD. The BY Tang L, it’s about 45 50,000 USD. If if I had to pick if I had to pick, I’d go I’d still pick the the Lincoln Co 900. I I’m not kidding. If if I had to pick, I’d still pick the Link Co 900. The reason why I’d pick the Link Co 900 is the boot, the design. Almost everything that you’ve got in the U8 in the 9X, you’ve got there few things that are better in the 9X. You don’t have the name speakers in in in the in the Link Co 900. Uh but in terms of everything that it does, I’m a fan of the 30-in screen up front. So, instead of having a dual uh 16in screen, which then gives you a 32 in um screen, you’ve got one screen that is 30 in. And then the screen that drops down in the back. Yes, it doesn’t glide forward and backwards. It just sits in one place, but it’s 30 inches. So, for me, yeah, I said it before. I said the reason why they didn’t launch the the linko 900 at the same time as the 9X at the Shangai Auto Show was the fact that you’d look at it and the Zika 9X would get all the attention, but everyone would just slide into the Linko 900 and buy that car. I’d buy that car. If that car comes into Australia, I’d buy it in a heartbeat. I wouldn’t even think about it twice. I’d buy it. Anyways, let’s continue. Okay, so let’s talk dimensions. I’ve made this video a lot longer than I planned, but stick with me. So, dimensions. The Tangel is uh 5.04 04 m long, uh 1.996 uh m wide, 1.76 m tall, has a wheelbase of 2 2,950. Um the Denza NAL has got a 5.2 m long car, uh 1.99 m in width, 1.82 m in height, and it’s got a wheelbase of 3.075, 075, which means it’s more comfortable on the interior in the N8L than it is in the Tangel. The Link Co 900 specs are very, very similar to the N8L. The length is 5.24 m. The height is 2 m, 1.999, similar to the um Denza N8L. And it’s 1.810, 810. So 10 millimeter difference in height um with the uh Denza N8 um the wheel basease but the wheelbase in the Lincoln Co uh 900 is 3.16 versus the 3.075 of the N8, which means the interior cabin is bigger on the Link Co 900. And then there’s the little quirks that they’ve done with the Lincoln Co 900. So if you go for the six-seater instead of the seven-seater, you’ll get reversible seats. So you can actually rotate the the interior of the car so that the the occupants of the car can actually face each other. Um the Yang Wang U8L is probably the longest car here. 5.4 m in length, uh 2.05 05 m in width and 1.93 m in height. So, it’s taller, wider, and longer than um the other cars in this segment. And it also has um a decent wheel basease, which is 3.12, but the wheelbase on the Linko 900 is slightly bigger at 3.16. Now, the Zika 9X is is very similar in specs to the um Link Co 900, the stablemates after all. It’s 5.25 versus 5.24 for the Link Co 900. Um, but it is wider. Uh, 2.03 versus 2.0 on the Link Co 900. And um, it’s 1.78 m. But just remember that the Link Co um, the Zika 9X has got double uh, air suspension, which means it does rise about 23 uh, ml more, which means it’s probably about the same height. Uh the wheelbase on the Zika 9X is the biggest wheelbase of all the cars here which is 3.25 which also has got swivel seats in the um in the Zika 9X. The seating configuration in the BYD tangel is 7. In the N8 is 6 2 plus 2 plus two. In the Lincoln code 900, you’ve got the option for 2 plus 2 plus two or 232, but there’s not a lot of the 232 at available at the moment. The U8L, as big as it is, is a fiveseater. It doesn’t have the option for seven seats is actually the other option you’ve got is four. And the four option, the option for four seats is class as the executive version, top spec of the car. The Zika 9X also comes in in 2 plus 2 plus2 or 2 32 um configuration as well. The cargo volume uh for this so that’s boot space is about um 610 with all the seats up and 1,960 for the Tangel. Um 610 1,960 for the NADL as well. The numbers for the Linger Co and Zika 9X will be top right. So then we’ve got a whole segment here for you to compare. Uh heads-up display is standard on all of this cars, which then means that the affectation is your preference. Uh what would you prefer? All of them have got very luxurious interiors. The Tangal probably is the one with the most inferior interior uh to all the cars here, but it’s not doing too badly to be honest with you. And if you’re getting this car at $40,000 out of China, which is roughly about $60,000 Australian, and if you think this car comes in and you are able they’re able to put this car on the market about $80,000, you’ve got to put it in in the context that um your Zika 7X is coming in at $80,000, your IM6 is coming in at $80,000, and you’ve got a lot of other cars are coming in at $80,000 in Australia, and therefore, you know that this car is probably good value for money. Um, the NADL is, uh, coming in about 45, which is just a little bit more than the Tangel, but a little bit more premium. Uh, the top spec, I think it’s about 50, but even at 50, you’re still looking at roughly about $75,000 um, Australian, which means it’s likely to be coming in about 80 to 90,000 as well. Um, if I was a betting guy, say to about $90,000 Australian when he comes in. And if it comes in at a $90,000, which is sub the LCT um threshold, you then have a decent car, a plug-in hybrid, which is capable of doing a lot of things, and it’s coming in at an affordable price. Top spec of this Linko 900 is $60,000. Again, I’ve said this a couple of times, and this is not a disrespect to any of the other cars. Um, if I’m buying a 5.3 uh meter long car, I’m a family guy. I I I would prefer for it to be a seven-seater so I can take my family in comfortably and we’ve got enough boot space to be able to lugg things around without any problems. So the UAL kind of isn’t for me. But then again, I was never the target audience. The target audience was was executives and rich guys who wanted to have a car that could do everything, bells, whistles, and could sprint for fun and do all those things as well. The 9X, however, is a bit different. It is designed to be completely luxurious. Now the entry level price of the 9X is going to be cheaper than the Zika09 which means based on that pricing based on the pricing that is there at the moment we expecting the Zika 9X to start in Australia somewhere in the region 120 to 125. Now, if Zeke wants to blows everyone’s mind, they really want to blow everyone’s mind, they come in and they come in in about 110, 115, and then you you have a different level of conversation with people now because the level of luxury that’s coming in at the base model is impressive. Now, the top spec, which is the all black edition, is coming in somewhere in the region of about 579,000 yuan or R&B, depending how you want to define it. And that’s going to come in about roughly about $150 to $160,000. That is your Range Rover spec levels. Now, I’ve had some people come out and say, “Look, they don’t think that this car is worth that.” I’ll I’ll tell them to go back in and look at everything that is going to be available on this car as standard and then talk again. So, this was my deep dive into um the cars that going to be in this segment going forward. Now, there are two cars that should be on this list that I haven’t put on, and I do apologize to Envo and to uh Neo for not putting them into this deep dip dive. Um, I think for me, the ESA doesn’t really fit that large SUV model. Unfortunately, it does look like a um more like a a modified MPV to to a certain extent, which is the reason why I haven’t put it in. I understand fully well that the ES8 is a fantastic car and it’s beautiful on the inside and outside. So, I probably should do have added it in and I did not. The Envo L90, I didn’t put it in out of respect to Neo because the fact that I didn’t put the ES8 onto this list made it very, very difficult for me to put the Envo L90 in. And the Envo L90 definitely holds his own against every single car that I’ve put in here and is probably more affordable. So probably what I will do next is I will restrict the video to three cars. I will pick the Lincoln code 900 which is the subbrand of Zika and J in this segment and I will compare it directly to the Envoy L90. So, I will do that on one hand and then I’ll probably do a deep dive with the Envoy L90 versus the ES8 as well. So, those two videos I’ll try and get done in the next couple of weeks and get that out to you guys. So, if you’ve liked everything that you’ve heard today, please like, share, and subscribe.
