Hyundai’s New Budget EV Is a Serious Problem for MG & BYD

Hyundai has just confirmed a new base model electric SUV — and this isn’t just another EV launch. This is Hyundai stepping directly into the most competitive part of the market.

With two battery options expected, front-wheel drive efficiency, and a price positioning aimed squarely at value buyers, this new Hyundai EV is targeting the same space currently dominated by the MG4 and BYD Dolphin. And that makes it a very big deal.

The base version is expected to offer around 300–350km WLTP range, with a larger battery pushing closer to 400–450km. Power figures look sensible rather than extreme — roughly 100–150kW depending on trim — and charging should remain competitive with 400V fast charging capability.

Hyundai already makes some of the most efficient and well-rounded electric vehicles on sale today. The Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6 and Kona Electric have proven that. So when Hyundai brings that engineering experience into the affordable segment, competitors should take notice.

MG and BYD have been winning on value. But Hyundai brings brand trust, global scale, and proven EV capability into the fight.

In this video, we break down:
– Battery sizes and expected range
– Power outputs and drivetrain layout
– Charging expectations
– Where this model sits in Hyundai’s EV strategy
– Why this could become one of Hyundai’s best-selling EVs

Is this the car that shifts the balance in the affordable EV market?
