CLINTON, Tenn. (WVLT) – A Tesla Model 3 crashed into a Clinton dance studio Wednesday while using autopilot, according to a police report that included statements from the car’s owner.

It happened around 4 p.m. when Clinton Police Department officers responded to Dream Dance Studio, where they spoke to the driver.

“[Driver Sharron Parrish King] advised as she was attempting to brake to turn onto 371 Market Street, the vehicle stayed in motion and accelerated through the front right side of Dream Dance Studio while striking the building,” the report said.

The car’s owner said it was using autopilot at the time, which caused the car to keep moving instead of stopping. The owner wasn’t driving, the report said, because Parrish was curious about buying a Tesla of her own, and she wanted to try one before buying.

The building itself saw brick and window damage, mostly on the front and right side. The site Thursday morning had cones and wood panelling over the front.

Three people ended up going to the hospital with minor injuries, according to the report.
