US man driving the whole length of the Americas in a Tesla Model X encounters worrying vehicle warning in harsh weather

A Tesla Model X on an extreme road trip across two continents just ran into a situation no one wants to deal with.

In the cold wilderness of Chile, a US driver found himself dealing with both harsh weather and a concerning alert from his EV.

The isolation made everything feel more uncertain.

Even so, the journey continued, as quitting was never an option.

What happened to his Tesla Model X overnight

YouTuber Everyday Sandro has been documenting his solo drive across the Americas in his self-named Model X, ‘Beluga.’

By the time he reached Chile, the expedition had already covered thousands of miles and 14 countries.

But unlike earlier parts of the trip, this stretch came with a new challenge: winter in the southern hemisphere.

Waking up inside a national park to freezing conditions, Sandro quickly noticed something was off.

Overnight, the cold had drained battery power, and his car had entered low power mode.

While that alone was manageable, a more concerning alert soon followed: a warning indicated that the coolant level was low.

While this may not seem like a big deal, the location was the problem here.

With no nearby service centers and limited support infrastructure, even minor issues could be devastating.

Sandro had anticipated risks when leaving more developed regions, but this was exactly the kind of situation he hoped to avoid.

Still, he kept moving, carefully navigating icy roads and climbing out of the snow-covered crater where he had camped.

Despite the tension, the journey wasn’t without its highs.

Along the drive, he saw snow-covered volcanoes and untouched landscapes that delivered the most amazing views.

While the journey was certainly unpredictable, he said these moments were exactly why he set out on the journey in the first place.

He can rely on solar power in emergencies

His setup also played a crucial role.

Equipped with custom solar panels mounted to the car, he was able to generate small amounts of power even in harsh conditions.

While it wasn’t enough to fully charge his Tesla Model X, it proved a helpful boost for essential electronics.

And yes, he actually had to rely on his solar setup to get himself out of a pinch a while back.

Eventually, he made his way toward Santiago, where charging infrastructure was more reliable and help was within reach.

Along the way, he reunited with friends and prepared to meet his mother, who had flown in to join part of the journey.
