BYD Seagull Price will be BELOW $25,000 AUD ($16,000 USD) In Australia

Guys, we’ve got a pretty good idea of what the BAD Seagull or the AT1 what that’s going to cost when it hits Australia. It’s going to be very, very close. But, um, the price is almost ridiculously cheap. It’s a lot cheaper than what I thought it would be. Good move by BAD. I mean, this is going to be really tough for anyone to compete with in terms of not when I talk about EV manufacturers from China. they can definitely compete. But when it comes to car brands in Australia that are not Chinese EV brands, as in Suzuki that make small cars, you know, any other small car brands, they they just they’re dead in the water because the price is crazy. Hello my friends, welcome to the channel. I’m Sam Evans. You’re watching the Electric Viking B, the new Seagull called the 801. It’s going to cost26,000 Australian dollars in New Zealand. So generally cars in Australia are a little bit cheaper than New Zealand. For one, in New Zealand you have to pay 15% GST. So importers have to pay 15% whereas it’s 10% in Australia. But in general, because also more cars are sold in the Australian market, it’s much bigger market. They’re up to amortize the cost a little bit. So it’s probably going to be about $24,000 Australian dollars for the Seagull in Australia. That’s could even be cheaper than that, but probably about 24,000. YouTube’s new algorithm means that you’re often not getting all of our videos in your feed. There’s 7,500. I’m pretty sure you’re probably not seeing a lot of them. In the description, there is a link to our newsletter. Click on that and you can get an update every day of all the latest news in the electric car industry. So in New Zealand, Bwood has announced the price for the most affordable model and there the ADO1 essential variant, the base model starts at the equivalent of Australian $26,000, probably around $24,000 Australia. The premium version is $31,000. Uh yeah, that’s Australian dollars. Now that’s New Zealand 30,000 and New Zealand 36,000. But anyway, the point is to say that there’s nothing else nothing on the market. ability is competing in its own marketplace here because there’s no other vehicle this size and this price. So, they’ve got the market to themselves. Manufacturers, I don’t think they’re thinking straight. I’ve had this conversation with so many people and they agree with me or at least they pretend to agree with me. I don’t understand the theory here. Why on earth do people car manufacturers keep bringing in these midsize electric SUVs when there’s like a hundred models? There’s so many. It’s like how do you choose? How they how the hell do you choose? Now what they think is they do this market research and they have these guys who are you know did a degree in statistics or something like that and they do market research and then I’ve heard them even those I’ve heard these employees talk because they’ve talked to me they say stuff like oh there’s no marketplace for that what you’re talking about and I’m like well actually give me the numbers what are the numbers on people who buy cars that size um in that price point what are the numbers and they’ll say oh it’s only 2% of the market. I’m like, “Well, you’ve got all 2%.” Do you realize how good that is compared to competing for, say, a midsized electric SUV? Let’s say that’s got 30% market share. Um, you’re competing with everyone else. Everyone, every man in his dog now has a midsize electric SUV. But this segment is brilliant. So, this is what I’m trying to say to these EV manufacturers. You You’re doing the wrong numbers. you’re like, you’ve got to actually look at on a statistical basis of saying, well, um, how many players are in that big market share? If there’s 50 of them, then the market share of 30% is no longer 30%, is it? It’s much smaller than that. So, I think this is a really smart move from BAD and they’re going to sell this Seagull. It’s this small electric car in many countries around the world and it’s got to be the cheapest car in most places. Not all of them, but most of them. Now, we’ve got prices as well for the ADO2, uh, which I think is a little bit overpriced. I don’t think it’s that good. But anyway, the ADO2, which is Build’s small, very small electric SUV, the Seagull is a better car in my opinion. It starts at $34,750 Australian. I think that’s too expensive for the base model. That’s in New Zealand, uh, which is New Zealand 40,000. The premium version is $39,970 Australian dollars or New Zealand 46,000. And that is just way too expensive because that puts it into the price point of competing with Leap Motors new EV, their new medium-sized EV, which is much bigger, much longer range, much better specified. Um, and it’s the same price. It wouldn’t sell at that price. There’s no way they’re going to sell it at that price and be able to actually sell any of them. Jill’s EX5. That’s the same price as the EX5. Uh, yeah, it’s not going to sell at that price. So, I’m going to assume that they won’t price it like that in Australia. That’s New Zealand 46,000, by the way. Anyway, the pricing for the AD 1 and 2 comes quite a bit under other BDs in the Australian car market. Oh, sorry, in the New Zealand car market. The Ato1 is New Zealand $10,000 cheaper than the Bod Dolphin, which starts at New Zealand 40,000, which I think’s a bit pricey. The ATO2 is New Zealand $10,000 under the ADO3 which starts at New Zealand 50,000. So you can see that um like I said cars in Australia are a fair bit cheaper than they are in New Zealand particularly um Chinese cars as well. Reync Solar is the company that I used. I’ll put a link to them in the description below. Body also revealed the specs right for the AD1 and the specs are for the base model to be honest not awesome. They’re okay. I mean this is a kind of very much a city car. It has 220 km of range, a 30 kWh battery, 65 kW frontwheel drive, 175 new me of torque, 0 to 100 is 11 seconds, which to me is a no-go. I would not buy any any car, I don’t care what it is, that can do 0 to 100 in 11 seconds. That’s just way too slow for a new modern car. And I sus I personally think it’s kind of dangerous having a car that’s that slow. That’s kind of like the kind of times that you saw 10 years ago for average cars or maybe even 20 years ago. Anyway, the model above that though is worth it. It’s got a fair bit more power and it’s got a 43 kWh battery providing 220 km of range which to me that 43 kW battery um with the extra power is worth it. So, right now you can pre-order one of these cars for a $1,000 order fee. Not there’s any point. I don’t know why you’d want to do that. There’s just no reason to do that. This pricing hasn’t been announced. Pre-ordering it for $1,000 just it’s not really a smart thing to do. Wait till the price comes out, then you can make a decision. So, the ADO1 is expected to come in at probably 24 to $25,000 the seagull. But that’s going to be for that gutless version which I don’t think many people are going to want. Some people might not realize that it’s really slow but and might buy it. But anyway, the specs that base model 30 kow battery the topsp spec premium gets a 43 kW battery. So that 43 kWh battery is definitely the the big choice here. And that’s going to give you you know the kind of range you you’d want if you wanted to go on a longer trip. Charging 11 kW AC which is really good for that size battery. You’ll be able to charge it really quickly. probably less than 4 hours at home and 65 kW DC charging which is okay 25 minutes to go from 30 to 80% for my me personally that actually rules it out. I think 65 kW DC charging is like 2010 charging speeds and I don’t care if it’s got a small battery that’s just too slow in my opinion. But some people don’t care about that. Some people say that’s fine. And you know, if you have you’re not less demanding than I am, then that’s good. So, the range of that 43 kWh battery is 310 km WLTP. And that’s the kind of range I think that, you know, you could definitely do longer trips on. Um, it would be a bit annoying having to charge at 65 kW, but it’s not too bad. That model as well, that premium model gets a 115 kW motor at the front and it can do 0 to 100 in 9 seconds. Totally fine. Nine seconds is still slow, but it’s totally acceptable and not dangerous. 11 seconds to me is kind of like scary. I think, you know, pulling into traffic, um, say some highways, you pull into onto a 100 km an hour highway and you’ve got to really time it and thinking to yourself, how long is it going to take me to get to 100? I don’t want to I want to make sure there’s no cars coming the other way to make sure I’ve got time. But when you got 115 kW, that won’t be an issue. So, the premium 801 gets that 11 kW AC charging, but it gets faster DC charging. It’s 85 kW charging, meaning you can charge from 30 to 80% in 22 minutes. It’s 3 minutes faster. Not a big difference, actually, to be honest. 85 kW charging, in my opinion, is still too slow, but whatever. It’s not too bad. Um, but I still reckon that manufacturers have to stop quoting these ridiculous 30 to 80% charging. You know what they’ve done? They’ve gone from 10 to 80% which was the standard. Their manufacturer started quoting 20 to 80%. Because no one in the public said anything. Now they’ve gone to now they’ve gone to 30 to 80%. How long before it’s 40 to 80% and then 50 to 80%. Eventually it’s going to be like people going to be looking at, you know, buying an EV. They’re going to go to a dealership and the manufacturer is going to say, “Oh yeah, 50 to 80% takes 10 minutes. Great.” Hey, 50 to 80%. What I mean, that’s the way I see it. 30 to 80% is only charging half of the battery. It doesn’t make sense. So, stop quoting these numbers, which are ridiculous. 10 to 80% it’s going to take you about 35 minutes. So, 35 minutes. Yeah, that’s I guess you could have lunch during that period of time. The ADO2 has a much bigger battery. It’s got a 51 kW battery and a 130 kW motor. It has 345 km of range, which is for a small city EV pretty good, but like I said, it’ll have to be a fair bit cheaper than the Agility EX5 or Leap Motors new C10 because and also um other cars in that range, the Body 803, they’re all about 40 40,000. So the 802 I suspect would come in at about 35,000 Australian dollars, possibly 34,000 about that arc. Yeah, for me the premium version of the Seagull at probably around $26,000 Australian and the ADO2 it comes in at $35,000 would both be decent cars, decently um decently good value. It’s not the segment that I would be interested in personally. I’d probably step up a little bit and get a, you know, a midsize SUV with a bit more range like the Agility X5 or Leap Motors new car or, you know, there’s some other options on the market as well. But for some people who live in a city and just do normal drive, you know, shorter distance on a daily basis, both of these cars would be great choices. Let me know what you think. Thanks for watching. [Music]

The BYD Seagull is set to launch in Australia for under $25,000 AUD ($16,000 USD), making it one of the most affordable electric cars on the market. With strong demand, low running costs, and competitive range, this compact EV could reshape Australia’s entry-level car market and accelerate the switch away from petrol.
