The Chinese Electric Car Causing Huge Problems For Mercedes and BMW

over 7,100 videos, but I’ve only done two of them about Huawei. I think, you know what, Huawei is actually a global behemoth. They’re making electric cars now. Lots of them. In fact, doing quite well about it, and no one’s really actually talking about them. Here is Huawei’s new EV. It’s not cheap. In fact, it starts at $52,000. This luxury market segment in China is deteriorating massively. It’s the reason why BMW, Mercedes, Benz, Audi, and Porsche are all in crisis in China, which is no laughing matter for them, that’s for sure. But Huawei is part of the reason why those companies are struggling coming up coming out with EVs and e- ramps like this that are making consumers think twice about the prestige brands that they bought in the past. Hello my friends, welcome to the channel. I’m Sam Evans. Great to have you with us. Huawei have just revealed their new Atom M8 pure electric SUV. Price starts at $52,000. It only comes in purple. The purple you see here. I’m just joking. You can get lots of different colors. I’m not sure, but for some reason, manufacturers lately, Lamborghini, Huawei, and others have Xpang as well, have brought out purple cars to show off their flagship vehicles. I don’t think that’s a a particularly smart strategy. I don’t think many people buy purple cars because they don’t look that good. Anyway, at have launched sales, pre-sales. You can now buy this M8 large SUV starting at $52,000. What do you get for your $52,000 though? Well, there’s two options. There’s an e-rev version and a fully electric version. There is a 192 line liar sensor mounted on the roof and the vehicle also has a front trunk. So, there’s a plenty of space in the front trunk to store stuff. You can see here it’s a pretty big vehicle, right? It’s actually 5.2 m long. That’s 204.3 in. So yeah, it’s it’s quite a large car. Uh sort of similar in size to something like a Land Cruiser, even slightly longer. In fact, it’s also 2 m wide. So yeah, large car, five seat option, but it’s also a three row version with six seats, not seven seats though, cuz this is really positioned as more of a luxury car. The M8 EV is one of the first vehicles to use Huawei’s Chancon intelligent driving ADS4, which provides intelligent driving assistance and intelligent parking assistance. Can’t say how good it is. A highlight though is the debut of Huawei’s high voltage 7in-1 electric drive system, which has apparently dual path redundant power supply. So, if you have problems with it, um, it has a backup system that can keep the car going, which is quite interesting. I haven’t heard of this before. This system will be available in single motor rear wheel drive and dual motor allwheel drive. The single motor it’s a 227 kW rear wheel drive 304 horsepower. Dual motor is 160 kW front motor that’s 215 horsepower. Rear motor 227 kW that’s 304 horsepower. So a total of 520 horsepower. Plenty of power. Battery size. It’s actually exactly the same battery and the same size as the battery in the Zika 7X. the 100 kWh CL chir chillin battery which has a range in this vehicle of 705 km that’s CLTC so WLTP range is about 600 km it also uses an 800vt high voltage battery platform which enables pretty fast charging charging speed I believe is around 500 kW so yet another electric car from China that has a faster charging speeds than any cars that are made manufactured by companies in the west. Richard U, Huawei’s executive director and CEO of Terminal BG, announced on Waybo that the ATO M8V will be the first to feature Huawei’s self-developed drive 1 high voltage 71 electric drive. Now, apparently the system saves 30% of cabin and trunk space, which is obviously ridiculous. There’s no you couldn’t possibly save an additional 30%. It doesn’t exist. But anyway, it improves cabin and trunk space. Maybe it’s maybe just improves cabin trunk space 30% not says 30%. Achieves a CLTC efficiency as which is quite good at 92.2%. So that’s one of the keys here. Getting your EV to be as efficient as possible. You’re going to get more range from the same battery size. That’s one of the big focuses here for this vehicle. Here’s what Huawei said. The entire vehicle features dual A and B power paths providing dual backup power. This ensures millisecond level fault isolation for all safety related components, guaranteeing the absolute safety of the intelligent driving systems power supply, efficiency, and noise reduction performance. Huawei’s team utilizes multi-round AI optimization algorithms to achieve optimal motor parameters, minimizing sound pressure levels and refining sound quality. With 0.2 2 mm ultra thin silicon steel sheets. Huawei’s self-developed silicon carbide modules and magnetic steel bonding technologies contribute to range and performance. Sounds like marketing speak to me, but anyway. Now, incredibly, this vehicle has the – version has 140,000 pre-orders. So, that’s the second most pre-orders of any car that I’ve seen in China uh possibly ever. $140,000. Now, the M8 ERV costs $49,000. So, it’s a few,000 cheaper. Not a big difference, but about $3,000 cheaper. Before sales even kicked off, it got 140,000 orders, which I can’t understand. It’s truly mind-boggling. And it has a range of about 1500 km between the battery and the motor. But an e-rev doesn’t quite work like a plug-in hybr. It’s a little bit different. The powertrain of the e-re is actually basically the same um just with an additional small 1.5 L turbocharged range extender engine. So it has 526 horsepower allwheel drive 392 kW exactly the same power numbers, same motors front and rear. The battery though is either LFP or a turnary NMC battery depending on which option you get. Right? If you pay the standard price 49,000 it comes with LFP. pay a bit more, you get a bigger battery. The LFP battery is a 37 kWh battery. The NMC battery is a 53.4 kWh battery. Meaning range for the base model E-Rev is 201 km. And for the longer range, it’s 310 km. As you can see, that’s a lot more range than you’re getting from plug-in hybrids. Between 200 to 300 km, a fair bit more. That said, other car brands are bringing out even more range than that, such as 400 to 500 km in their e-revs with a bigger batteries than this. Now, what about the interior space on this vehicle? Actually, it’s got got a fair bit. The six seat version has 353 L of trunk space. Not a lot in with the six seat version, but if you get the five seat version, the two row version, it actually has 976 L. That’s a That’s a big boot space. With the rear seats folded, it’s 2,348 L. Now, there’s actually quite a few versions of this car. The E-Reb version, there’s six different versions starting at 49,000 going up to 61,000. And you would think at this price, yeah, it’s kind of not cheap. I mean, yeah, it’s if it was this price in the United States or Australia or Europe, you’d think, well, this is good value. It’s a big car, good technology. Uh, but in China where the market is so incredibly competitive, it doesn’t appear all that affordable. Really remarkable brand power here from AT and Huawei that they can pre-sell 140,000 of the e-rev alone. So, that the fully electric version has just been revealed. I think it’s a better choice. Personally, I don’t think you need 1,400 km of mixed range from an E-Rev, but some people might think they do. So, it’s going to suit both people. And honestly, this is the car. This is why BMW, Porsche, I mean, Porsche sales down in China 30% this 27% I believe it was in the first six six months of this year on the back of bad sales last year. The same thing happening to Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi. They were all struggling in China. Cars like this are the exact reason why those 140,000 pre-orders instead of going to European brands are going to this Chinese brand. Let me know your thoughts in the comments. Thanks for watching.
