Aussie Electric Car Sales Hit Record High in June – Pass TIPPING Point

Often when a new technology comes out, it takes a little while be before that technology really takes off. I mean, think of the smartphone for example. When we first got these and I remember the first couple of years, I didn’t get an iPhone. I was like, they’re too expensive. I don’t really understand them. But after a couple of years, smartphones hit a pivot point. Some people say that pivot point is at 5%, some say it’s at 10%. EV sales in Australia just went roaring past the pivot point of 10%. And now the rest of the way will actually be much quicker than what most analysts are expecting. Australian electric car sales have surged to a record high. A lot of Australians are saying, you know what, EPS are never going to work here. I’ve been reading this. I’ve got to stop reading comments because there’s thousands of commenters here, probably millions of them, saying electric cars will never be successful globally. They just don’t know what’s going on. And they’re saying they’re never going to work in Australia. Basically, even if the rest of the world goes electric, Australia won’t. that car manufacturers will say, “Okay, Aussies, you, some of you, most of you Aussies, saying you don’t want EVs, we’ll just make special cars for you with engines in them, and everything will go on as normal for the next thousand years.” Now, of course, this is not the case, and in reality, Australians are now actually buying EVs, and in record numbers. Hello, my friends. Welcome to the channel. I’m Sam Evans. You’re watching The Electric Viking. Great to have you with us. I’m quite shocked, guys, of reading comments lately on social media, on Facebook. I spent 20 minutes today. Total waste of time reading comments. Somebody posted about how uh Australia was moving away from coal and people were saying things like, “Oh, wind turbines are a disgrace. Um, China has never installed a single wind turbine.” And literally, I saw this comment saying, “Here you go. Here’s evidence that wind turbines don’t work. The Chinese have never ever installed one ever. Actually, China has spent billions and billions on wind turbines. There’s comments like this all over social media, and it’s alarming to me. I feel like, do these people actually go to school? I mean, do they pass, you know, do they get past even, I know, kindergarten? I don’t appear that their their literacy ability is is shocking to me. So, it’s kind of surprising. And I think this is the kind of mindset that’s being passed on to their neighbors and telling them, “Don’t buy an electric car and don’t buy an electric car.” And then you got these other people, right, EV fans saying, “Oh, I bought an EV. It’s fantastic.” Telling their mates, “Mate, I bought this EV. Want to have want to come for a drive in it?” Their friend goes for a drive in their EV and goes, “Wow, this thing’s freaking awesome.” Goes and buys an EV, too. So, that’s what’s happening here. I think um essentially a lot of you guys are buying electric cars, telling your friends, they listen to you because you’re probably more intelligent than the average Australian. and well not probably definitely and then they go and buy one themselves as well. So a lot of this growth in EV sales now is a as a result of you guys. Australian EV sales have surged to a record 10.3% market share. Tesla B and J are doing well. This doesn’t include sales from Xpang. I’m not sure what those numbers are. So these numbers are actually slightly better than what they would actually appear. According to data supplied by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries and the Electric Vehicle Council, a record 13,200 EVs were sold in Australia in June, which was a record market share of 10.3%. My projections for this time next year, where we going to be at in one year’s time from now, what percentage? I’ll get to that at the end of the video. This was up from 9.2% in May and 8.3% in June of last year. And it actually did come about as partly result of a really good sales month for Tesla. The Tesla Model Y, of course, deliveries began the previous month, but a lot of deliveries to new Model Y owners. In addition, Tesla’s got a lot of competition here. There’s so many options now in the market. Chinese competitors have very competitive prices and incredibly good options now. And more and more people are realizing, hey, Chinese cars are not garbage. They’re not crap. They’re actually better. They’re actually better than the West. The cars the West are making usually, not always, but usually. Sales of plug-in hybrids are also were not bad. 6,200 were sold. So, interestingly, more than twice as many electric cars were sold versus plug-in hybrids. In addition to that, nearly half of the plug-in hybrids sold were actually um BYDs, 2,993 of them. the BOD Shark 6 ute and the Body Cine 6. Anyhow, that means the share in Australia of NEVs or new energy vehicles as they call them in China, meaning plug-in hybrids and EVs put together was 15.2%. I think that share will go to about 25 to 30% by this time next year. Within the next few years though, we’re going to be looking at closer to 80 to 90%. The rise this year says the driven is the result of multiple factors including the rebound in Tesla sales which posted their highest sales numbers since March last year thanks to the deliveries of the new Model Y which began in May. And also guys, there’s been a bit of a resurgence in Tesla Model 3 sales. It’s done well too. However, BYD doing well, Jill doing well with the EX5. Zika selling a fair few of the Zika X. And to be honest, there’s so many models. There’s 96 different electric cars you can actually buy here in Australia. By the end of next year, there’s going to be more than 150. Who was in first? Well, Tesla was in first, the Model Y, I should say, with 3,460 sales. And this was about the same number that Tesla sold in May. Tesla delivered 3,580 of the Model Y the previous month. The Body Cine was in second with 1,800 deliveries, the Cine 7, and that’s the best month for the Cine so far, meaning it’s totally in total so far this year, Body has sold 3,756 of the Seion 7. Tesla Model 3, it came third with 1,132 deliveries, which was Tesla Model 3’s best month for 2025. Julie EX5, which is an incredibly good value car, had 822 deliveries on the back of some good incentives. One of them was a cash back for um basically for if you trade in a car, you get a good deal. So, there’s some good discounts for Jill EX5s. Body was in fifth place with the Buy Seal getting at 627 sales, followed by the 803 with 576 and the Body Dolphin with 561 sales. I am a little surprised to see so many sales deliveries of the Build 803 which is kind of outdated now a little bit and let’s be honest the Cline 7 that’s a pretty impressive car like look at the interior that car is very nice the 803 for me if you compare that to the Julia X5 the Julia X5 is a much better car in almost every way um and they’re about the same price I’m a bit baffled to why the 803 is selling so well today guys don’t get me wrong I bought a build 803 what was it three years ago just three and a half years ago nearly now and it was great at the time. It was great but the car industry has moved on. That said though having a cracking year in fact delivered 8,156 cars in Australia in the month of June which was a 368% increase from the 1,743 they delivered in June last year. What this means is Toyota’s market share in Australia is going down. Traditionally they had more than 20% market share. Now they had only 15% market share in the month of June. Fast forward five years. Probably companies like BYD will overtake Toyota and Toyota sales will continue to drop off every year. It’s very very likely. Incidentally guys, news today as well was that Toyota has cancelled one of their new EVs and decided that um they want to sell internal combustion engines instead. More profit can be made that way, says Toyota to its investors. Short-term profit. That’s true. Anyhow, looking at the list here, guys, after the billionaire Dolphin, you’ve got the K EV5 with 553 sales, followed by the Kia EV3 with 321 sales. The MG4, 251 sales, the Polestar 4, 174, and the MGS5, basically the new MG electric SUV with 171. Out of these cars, guys, I’m just going to run you through these vehicles and say, would I buy it? Yes or no? And I’m going to give you my opinion on all of them. Tesla Model Y, would I buy it? Yes or no? Yes. Body C line 7? Yes. Tesla Model 3? Yes. Julie EX5? Yes. Build seal? Yes. Build 803? No. Buy Dolphin? Yes. Kia EV5? Hard? No. Efficiency is too I don’t understand. There’s a lot of people buying these Kia EVs, but they’re very inefficient. And there’s very good alternatives for the same price. It’s baffling to me. I I have a Kia I have I have an Xbang G6 and it uses around 16 kilwatt hours per 100 km of energy. The Kia uses just over 20. It’s in other words about 20% less efficient. So I don’t really understand why the EV5 is selling so well. Anyhow, at least Kia buyers are getting into an EV instead of an internal combustion car. Kia’s EV3 similar issue for me. So no MG4. I think MG4 is a pretty good car. Yes. Polestar 4 definitely beautiful car. MGS5 no because it’s just better. I think the Jill EX5 is a better option for the same price. So guys, what are your thoughts on this? Uh you know, are you interested in any of these vehicles? Of course, there’s a whole lot of other cars on this list, whole lot of other options. And I personally think that um a lot of people are waiting for the new Xping G6 and the new Zika’s 7X. Those two vehicles have seen huge interest. I’ve been getting emails and comments just constantly, when are they coming out? When are they coming out, Sam? When are they coming out? And the Zika 7X, I think it’s coming out within the next few months. The new Xpang G6, I think by the end of this year. Thanks for watching. [Music]

Aussie Electric Car Sales Hit Record High in June – Pass TIPPING Point

Australia’s electric vehicle market hit a historic milestone in June, with EVs accounting for over 10% of all new car sales — the highest monthly share ever recorded. Tesla led the charge, but Chinese brands like BYD, MG, and GWM also surged. Analysts now say the country has passed the EV tipping point, with rapid mainstream adoption on the horizon.
