2025 Mustang Mach E GT | Electric cars don’t have to be ugly
Hey everybody, welcome back to Clipboard Cars. In today’s episode, we have the 2025 Ford Mustang Mache GT. And it’s the first EV on our channel. [Music] So, in this video, we’re going to cover five exterior features as well as five interior features. We’ll show you a wide openen view of the car, then we’ll take it for a drive, give you our thoughts and opinions on the ride. The first exterior feature I want to cover is a bit subjective, but I personally feel like the front end of this car is one of the best looking electric crossover SUVs for sale, period. The next exterior feature I want to cover is the front trunk. Again, right here where the engine would be, but since it’s an electric vehicle, we have all this space that is not really being utilized well. There’s just a small little cubby here, but it exists. You can put, I don’t know, some groceries that you don’t mind getting a little hot. The next exterior detail on the Mustang Maki GT is the wheels. They are a 20-in design. They are very sporty looking, and they definitely elevate the styling of this car. All right, the next exterior detail I want to cover is the coupooplike design that Ford put into this car. It’s a bit of a trickery with how they have this whole thing laid out. So, you can see that the regular paint job goes from here, but there’s black painted uh sections up here, which give it the illusion that it’s a coupe styled car, but it’s really not. It still has a good amount of headroom here in the back and a good amount of trunk space. The last exterior feature I want to cover on this car is the fact that there aren’t really any door handles. There’s electronic actuated buttons that you just push and then you pull it open. It’s really cool on the back here or might not be cool. We’ll see how longevity holds up. But you push this button and then there’s an electronic uh piston that actually pushes the door out against the body of the vehicle and allows you to open the door. The first interior feature I want to cover are the sport seats themselves. They’re heavily bolstered to keep you centered in the seat for extreme cornering and all that kind of stuff. things that you wouldn’t really expect to do in a crossover SUV, but since this is a Mustang Mache GT, kind of expected with the amount of power this vehicle puts down. Uh they have a really cool styling to them as far as the the top shoulder bolstering as well as the headrest uh from the back. It just it just looks super cool. The next interior feature I want to cover is the BNO sound system. Ford really knocked it out of the park with how they de developed the speakers in here. It is a very good sounding sound system. The next interior feature I want to cover is the 15.5 in center display screen. It’s fully touchscreen. Has a little volume knob that actually does a few multi-function things like adjusting the fan speed or the volume, a couple other stuff. Um, but overall just about everything is operated through that screen. So, if you don’t really like that and you want to have physical buttons, this might not be the car for you. The next thing I want to cover is the glass panoramic roof. It is super cool just to look up and just have the whole sky looking right back at you. The last thing I want to cover on the interior is just the general simplicity of the design of everything. Uh they kind of followed the Tesla design cues with everything here and it it works here in the Mustang. So, when it comes to opening and closing the trunk, sometimes people get a little tripped up by this because they don’t actually see a handle or anything. You can double tap the key fob and there’s actually an option for the front trunk or the back trunk. Or what you can do is you can hit this little button that’s hidden underneath this lip. it’ll auto open. And then most of the time you’ll see manufacturers have an actual button right in this area where it’s a close button. However, Ford did not do that. What they did is they reuse the same button that you use to open it. You just tap that button again and it should self close itself. Heat. Heat. N. Hey, hey, hey. [Music] Heat. Hey, heat. Hey, heat. All right, we are driving the Mache GT and right off the bat, it’s already just a super smooth ride. This This has the Magnaride shocks on it. So, they’re just constantly adapting to the road every who knows. So, this Mak GT has the dual motor E all-wheel drive. Since it’s an electric vehicle, they’re going to just throw the letter E in front of everything for all their names. This particular electric vehicle has a 91 kW electric battery and it’s the extended range. So, it’s rated for about 265 mi of range. But if you’re practicing good charging techniques for having a electric vehicle as your daily driver, you’re typically only going to want to charge it up to about 80% and you’re going to want to deplete it to 20% to have the best battery health when operating one of these vehicles. So, typically you’re going to look at about 200 mi of range before you’re going to start wanting to get to a charger to properly maintain this vehicle. So, when it comes to the power and performance of the Mustang Mache GT, it’s got 480 horsepower and 700 pound feet of torque. That’s a lot, but again, this is an electric vehicle, and they’re mainly known for their torque figures. 0 to 60 time is roughly 3.4 seconds, which is right in line with a lot of supercars that are on the market. So, we’ll go ahead and test that here in a little bit. So, when you’re in the market and you’re shopping for a brand new 2025 model, the base price of the GT, which is what we’re driving right now, is $54,495. And then you can add some more options from there, like a performance pack and all that kind of stuff, and the price will go up from there. There is, however, an off-road version with a Mustang Maki GT Rally Edition, and that thing is really cool with built-in fog lights into the grill, a little bit lifted uh as far as the ground clearance goes, Na’viier tires, and white rally wheels. That thing is super cool, but is also a little more pricey as it starts at $58,490. Now, if you don’t want to have the performance versions of the Mustang Mache, you can go with the lower trim levels like the entry one, which is called the Select, and that starts at $37,995, or you can get the premium, which is $41,995. All great options, but if you really want to go fast and have a better looking Mustang Maky, the GT or the GT Rally is definitely the pick. again on the shopping topic for a Mustang Maki uh or any electric vehicle for that matter, they depreciate harder than German luxury sedans. So, as much as it pains me to say this, the best way to buy one of these if you’re if you need to have a new car would be to lease one of these things because you’re you’ll have a a better payment. Odds are if it’s an electric vehicle, you don’t actually need to drive it a whole lot. It’s just a much better route to go and you’re not going to eat all that depreciation cost. Or if you want to be smarter about this, you can find a Maky or any other electric vehicle that’s already a year or two old and they’ve pretty much already taken like a 40 to 50% hit on the price tag. So, a lot of money to be saved there. So, when it comes to the center console, you’ve got this armrest right here that has GT embossed into the leather. You lift that up and there’s an actual storage cubby pocket back there that you have to slide a a door to get into. There are more charge ports that are in there. In front of that, you’ve got your emergency brake and then you’ve got two cup holders. And then in front of that you have a wireless charging pad and then one pad that you can hold a phone but is not a wireless charger. In front of that you’ve got two more charging ports. Very well laid out interior. Uh coming around to the steering wheel. It’s pretty good. You’ve got your gauge cluster here which is a full LED screen on the steering wheel itself. Just standard buttons for changing music tracks, setting your cruise control, adaptive cruise, all that kind of stuff. The lane keep assist works great. It’s not like jarring where it shves the car back over. It gradually turns the wheel to bring you back in. If you don’t like those features, you can obviously turn them all off. Like I said, no real complaints here. And on top of that, you’ve got a really good sound system. So, new for the 2025 model Mustang Machis is that across the board, all trim levels get a heat pump. That is something they did not have standard on older models. And it is critical to have one of those because uh in colder climate temps, the battery really struggles to hold its charge. And there’s just a lot of other things that go on with the electronics if the battery isn’t up to temperature. No car is perfect. Let’s go through a little cons list here with the Mustang Mache GT. And the first one is it’s not the fastest at charging in its segment. You got Teslas and Rivians that pretty much smoke this thing on battery charging. It’s just something to keep in mind. If you just plan to have this in the garage and charge it overnight and that’s how you’re going to do it, then that won’t apply to you. It’s this car is perfectly fine for you. The next thing I want to cover is that typically with electric vehicles, the insurance rates are a lot higher than gas vehicles. It is what it is. I don’t know the exact reasons why, but it is a lot more expensive to replace a battery if you puncture it. So, uh just keep that in mind when you’re shopping. The other thing that people don’t take into account when shopping for an electric vehicle is the sheer weight of these things and how much more uh wear it puts on your tires. So again, especially with performance electric vehicles, the tires definitely get shredded faster. Again, you’re looking at a ballpark 200 usable miles of range with this particular electric vehicle. Is what is your lifestyle demand as far as how far is your daily commute? Do you find yourself having to change plans midday and have to go across town to go do something and you didn’t think think about that in the morning? An electric vehicle like this might not be the right choice for you, but there are plenty of gas options that will definitely go 500 plus miles of range that are very quick to fill up. So, now let’s cover some of the common problems that owners have faced with the Mustang Mache GT. It’s not particularly to the 2025 model, but it’s also going to rope in all the prior years that the Mustang Maches have been out. So, the first one is is that when the 12volt battery starts to get a little bit on the low end, the electronic locks tend to freeze and not actually function. This could be a bad thing in the fact that you could trap your occupants in the vehicle and you’re going to have a hard time getting them out until you can get that battery jumped. One way to remedy that though is to make sure you change that battery once every 2 years and you shouldn’t ever have that issue happen. Keyword shouldn’t. Electronics are always finicky. So, this large 15.5 in infotainment screen does tend to freeze up from time to time. I can’t say for sure on the 2025 models, but on older generations, that has been a thing to happen. Typically, though, it does happen if it’s extremely hot outside or if extremely cold outside. Uh, these large screens really get temperamental when the temperatures are really one way or another. The next uh common problem I wouldn’t say is very common, but owners have reported this where if you don’t drive the vehicle enough, the rear rotors on the brakes tend to score themselves and then you’re going to start hearing a grinding sound and you’ll eventually have to replace the rotors. For whatever reason, if you’ll just let these cars sit, that just happens. Now, I know I just listed a lot of problems and downsides to this car, but to be honest, if you’re just someone that’s looking to have this vehicle to be just around town driving it locally, just to and from things, you’re well within a 200 mile range daily. This is probably one of the most perfect vehicles for your lifestyle. Uh there’s no maintenance to these things. There’s no oil changes. At most, you have to change uh the coolant once every 2 3 years for the battery, but outside of that, it’s it’s just a straightforward. you hop in and go and then when you get home, plug it in, charge it. You don’t have to stop at gas stations or anything like that. So, your snack budget might go down, too. So, on top of all that, you have a great looking car inside and out. You have mostly what I would consider a very reliable car. Temperatures do affect electric vehicles. It’s not just the Maki GT. Just any any electric vehicle will will have some sort of an issue. Even gas cars have issues in the in the freezing cold temps. The other fun thing is that this car has near supercar performance when it comes to acceleration and braking. This has Brembo brakes on it, by the way. Very good at stopping. I really don’t need to prove that right now cuz I just had Chipotle and I don’t want that to get thrown up. Speaking of 0 to 60, we’re going to come up to the stop sign here. Ready, guys? Yeah. 3 2 1 Oh, we get a little bump. That’s pretty good, though. That was pretty good for a for an SUV. I mean, this is pretty quick. So, here here’s one thing with electric vehicles that I haven’t been able to figure out why they always need to do this. They’re over complicating the charge port doors. They’re having this fancy door do this electronic open thing going on. Ford saw right through all of that BS and they just said just nope, just tap it. It opens. Nothing more than that. We don’t need that that breaking on you. uh Tesla owners or Rivian owners or Porsche owners can’t get the charge port open and they can’t even charge their own cars because the little electronic actuators for those just stopped working or it’s too cold. So, when it comes to general space inside the Maky GT, it’s just like any other midsize SUV or crossover. Um I’m 6′ 3. I fit in the driver’s seat perfectly. There’s plenty of room to go back uh up and down. There’s just a lot of good room in here. Um the back seat I fit back there as well. The trunk has plenty of room for groceries or whatever you’ve got to throw in there. I think that Ford did a really good job with the packaging of this car. So, if I were to buy one of these cars, the way I would spec this would be one of two ways. If I could swing affording the Rally Edition, I would get that. I would get it in the dark green color with the white rally wheels and I would just take that to rally cross events across the country and just have a lot of fun with it. The other way that I would spec it would be just in the regular GT and then I would get it with the performance pack and then I would get it dark green with the bronze package. I think that is one of the cleanest looks for this car. Hold on. That’s fun. Steering’s a little uh there’s a lot of body roll. You can definitely tell that the suspension is doing a lot to keep this car upright. I wouldn’t advise trying to use this as like an autocross vehicle, but if you were trying to justify it, still try. So, I think that pretty much wraps it up for today with the Mustang Mache GT. All I Oh, I got another straightaway. Want to say thanks to Akens Ford for providing us with this 2025 Mustang Mache GT. They have a few of them on the lot still.
