It’s the ultimate budget friendly adventure bike. Can it keep up with the bigger names? And is it actually worth your hard-earned cash? Stick around because we’re taking it for a spin, testing out the features, and seeing if the L203.0 Zero Pro deserves a spot on your next road trip. Let’s get on with it. Before we take it for a ride, let’s look at what makes the L20 3.0 Pro different. The first and probably most important thing is here, that mid drive motor. Unlike hub drive motors that sit inside the wheel, a mid drive motor is placed right at the bike’s crank, the same spot where your pedals are. And that makes a huge difference. First, power and efficiency. Because the motor works with your bike’s gears, it gives you better torque for climbing hills and smoother assistance on flat ground. You get more range from the same battery, meaning longer rides and fewer recharges. Second, balanced and handling. With the motor placed in the middle, weight is centered and low, giving you a natural ride feel and better stability, improving control on tricky terrain. Thirdly, there’s easy maintenance since the wheels stay standard. Punctures and tire swaps are quick and familiar with no motor in the way, meaning less hassle. And finally, performance you can feel. Mid drives respond to your pedaling faster, so it feels more like riding a regular bike just with super legs. So, if you’re tackling hills, mixed terrain, or just want a more natural ride, a mid drive ebike might be the perfect choice. But that’s not the only key feature. So, let’s have a look at some others. It’s folding and has full suspension giving compact storage and super smooth ride. Its step through design makes it ideal for anyone. It has an 8 amp super fast charging system. It’s got anti- theft GPS tracking and alarm builtin. And then the usual features we’d expect from Enu. Punchproof tires, Shimano 7-speed gear set, load lugging rear rack, hydraulic disc brakes, and a comfy saddle. And of course, it’s fully UK and EU compliant, meaning there is no risk of your pride and joy getting confiscated by the authorities. Plus, it’s available in the matte black we’ve got here, or a champagne gold. As usual, unpacking and assembly is an easy task following the stepby-step instructions with all the tools you need included. Once paired to the Enway app, you can enable the alarm in the app, which will sound when movement of the bike is detected, and also send a notification to your phone. The app can also be used to lock and unlock the bike, activate the lights, or provide its location using GPS. To show how compact it is when folded, here it is in the boot of a Fiat Panda, and the task of unfolding and getting it ready to ride is an easy one. [Music] So, here we are out on the road with the L20 3.0 Pro. Now, it’s very much at home on the road. Those only semi- rugged tires, meaning it’s nice and smooth with low rolling resistance. The full suspension takes out all the lumps and bumps that we’re used to on UK pothole roads and the hydraulic brakes mean that we can safely stop even in reasonably damp conditions that we’ve got today. I’m riding in assistance level five. So coming up this hill here, the motor’s helping me out. I’m in the highest gear, but it’s still a breeze to get up to the top. Now, it’s been a while since I’ve driven a bike with a mid drive motor. Um, so I wasn’t sure how much of a difference I’d notice. Um, but it absolutely is so smooth and so controlled compared to a hub drive. You hardly even realize the motor is there, apart from the fact that it’s giving you loads of assistance. And because that assistance is at the crank, it’s also impacted by the gearing you select. So, if you are on a really steep hill and want to drop those gears to give yourself a bit of a workout, but with that power assistance as well, the power assistance is also ratio down, which is a great help, giving you more torque when you need it. So, having come this far and up a few hills with it on level five, just to give a bit of a comparison, going to drop it down to level one. So, whilst it’s marginally more difficult, got a hill coming up. Um, I’m going to carry on going. And yet for this one, I am going to drop down the gears a little bit to give myself a bit of assistance going up, but it also gives that motor the same assistance. So even though I’m on level one using a very low amount of battery, I can still easily get to the top of this hill with very little effort from me. And then the other side, back up to uh back up to seventh gear. Still assistance level one. and I can power away nicely. So, the L23 Pro is definitely a refined bike to ride. There’s no rattles, no clunks. As I said, that motor is so smooth and quiet being on a mid drive, you can’t even tell it’s there. Um, so if you’re passing people, they wouldn’t even know you were using an electric bike. In actual fact, the smoothness and the gearing of the bike means that I’m now exceeding the speed limit for the motor assist with very little effort, which is unusual um for a folding rugged bike like this. Uh, it just goes to show how well it’s built and designed for onroad use. We will be trying it out shortly off-road as well. So, we’ll see if it performs as well there as it does on the road. That little hill there, my speed dropped. So that motor kicked in nicely to get me going um as I reduce speed to go over the roundabout. So again, I’m hitting a hill here. My speed’s reducing. Motor’s kicking in. Keeping my speed at that 15.5 mph, even though I’m hardly pedaling to be fair. In fact, I’m just turning the pedals, not really making any effort at all. and I’m straight up that hill without any problems. Got to say for an on-road performance so far, the L23 Pro really is my choice for smoothness and ease of use. But let’s take a look at what it’s like off-road. Our first obstacle is one of the many anti- motorcycle gates, which can be an issue with some bikes, but the balance of this one makes it a pretty easy test to pop it onto its back wheel to get it through. So, while we’re on this tarmac section of off-road, uh we’ll give those brakes to check. So, I’m going to do 16 mph. So, just over that motor speed limit. And we’ll do a brake test in three, two, one. And considering those slippy gear, those, you know, semi-slick tires to allow for on-road performance and also the damp conditions here today, I’m pretty impressed with those braking from those hydraulic disc brakes. Shortly we’ll be heading onto some rougher terrain. So a mixture of grass and mud. So we’ll see how those tires cope with that. Um with their I would say limited off-road ability. Um because they are a balance between on-road smoothness with a grip of a little bit of grip for off-road. Now, this is definitely going to get us a bit dirty, but let’s see how it performs. So, we are definitely slippy on here. So, it’s going to be an interesting ride. So, I am going to have to take it steady. Uh cuz this grass is damp. And in fact, I’m going to lower the power output and drop it to a power assist of just level two to avoid spinning out those wheels with the power that this bike is capable of, particularly in lower gears. But as you can see, the grip is working. Power assistance is keeping me going. The suspension, considering the roughness of the ground, is giving me a reasonably comfortable ride. It is not entirely designed for this kind of terrain. Leave it on paras level two. In fact, no. I’m going to drop it to level one cuz for things like that corner, too much torque, too much power at the higher levels can be nearly as much of a problem as not enough. But as you get used to the bike, because you can control the gearing of the motor from the gears exactly the same as you would if you were riding. is actually a lot better than if this was a hub motor. So, given the volume of mud we’ve just been through, um you can see that the big mud guards have done a really good job of protecting me from all that mud and wet. So, what makes this a great bike and really ideal for van life? Well, if you’re looking at the full range of bikes available in this price range, most would come with a hub drive. So, the mid drive that gives this better torque, power, and endurance, as well as balance and easy maintenance does set this one apart. The fact it’s semi-rugged, making it ideal for on the road, but still holding its own on the rough stuff, and the fact it folds down to be stored or transported. Plus, the added safety features of a built-in alarm and GPS tracking to help keep it safe. All in my book, make it an ideal on the road companion.
