The Simple Truth About Electric Bike’s In Australia..

Police have undertaken a blitz on e scooter riders, handing out more than 90 fines in just one day. Speed gun in hand, scooters in their sights. Why were you traveling so fast? Exceeding the speed limit responsible for 34 infringements. Not wearing a helmet, the other costly error. Some doubling the damage. The fine for not wearing your helmet, that’s 143. And if you exceed the speed limit on a foot path, it’s another $143. All right, guys. It is time to talk about ebikes. And I have actually been wanting to make this video for almost 6 months. And yeah, it’s taken me quite a little bit of time to actually figure this out because this is a touchy subject. And I know a lot of you guys are going to absolutely hate these things, but I also think there are a lot of really good use cases for them. So, in this video, we’re going to break it down. We’re going to go over the practicality of these things, the use case, the laws, and should you actually have one here? Is it safe? We’re going to cover it all. Now, what is an ebike here in Australia, though? Well, an ebike is an electrically assisted bicycle essentially. And there’s plenty of different variations. There’s plenty of different ones you can buy, but they all have an electric motor. And essentially either when you pedal it helps you take off or you have a throttle and it can just sort of take you off like a motorcycle would. Now depending on the state you got to check individually what state you’re from because there are different rules for different states. I know in New South Wales they they’re trying to ban you know if you can’t have a throttle on your ebike. Is it a throttle? Yeah. They’re illegal unfortunately in New South Wales. Here in WA you can have a throttle. You just can’t have an electric motor more than 250 watts, and it can’t go over 25ks an hour. Now, 250 watts is pretty low. Most ebikes you’re going to get are like 650 to 750 watt. They’ll do roughly 45, maybe 50ks an hour if you open them up and take the restrictions off, which is very easy to do. And I guess this is really where the murky stuff starts to happen because are these motorcycles? Are people driving these things recklessly? Is are they out of control? Yes and no. Now, I actually got a Jan Snow X70. And this bike, I actually really enjoy it. I’m not a big EV guy. You know me. I absolutely hate Teslas. I hate everything EV almost. But these bicycles, much like the Stark Var electric dirt bike, they are actually weapons and you know, like they’re a lot of fun. So, this bicycle here, it does have pedals. It does have a throttle. It does have a 750 W motor, I believe, on this one. It’s got a speedo. It’s got front and rear disc brakes, headlights, tail lights, indicators. It’s a full-on mini moped. I want to call it like a moped. Like, it’s almost a moped. Like, you can pedal this thing, but I don’t pedal anywhere. Like, I’m using the power the whole time. And it almost reminds me of a moped that is more friendly to say driving on a shared path or driving, you know, just for a quick trip. you know, you just got to go a couple ks or, you know, you want to go up to the shop for something, you don’t want to dead in the car, there’s a lot of traffic, whatever the case may be. It has actually shown me there is a market here. Not one of them. Not one. What a bunch of pricks, man. Because here in WA, we have a crazy cycle path network. And I actually didn’t even know this until I got this bike. And honestly, it’s a it’s it’s actually mindblowing how many cycleways, bridges, like just all the dedicated paths are. Like I can drive my bike from Perth basically to the bottom of Western Australia all by a cycle path. Dude, they spent some coin on this path. I’ve gone probably over what is it? We’ll have to count. At least four bridges, maybe five. And these are big bridges over the highway, man. Like some serious coin, bro. This is some serious taxpayer dollars. [Music] over the highway, over the train. I was actually really impressed. And on a beautiful day when it’s not too hot, it’s not raining, you know, it’s it’s nice weather, you can go out. This was a really good option. Like, there’s no there’s no traffic, there’s no clowns on the road. like you’re just on these big cycle paths the whole way and it was actually really refreshing. Nice to be outside, get some sun. I I was all for it. This is what it’s all about. If you do have a bike like this is just out of the beautiful beautiful areas, you got these [ __ ] stupid ass things. Jesus. Not bad. Not bad. But I think that’s where we start to come into the issues with it because I absolutely love this bike on the cycle paths, the shared paths, wherever there’s a proper dedicated lane for a bike. I think that is brilliant. that B, that bike, that X70 Jan Snow, it really is worth having. It really is, guys. But the problem is when there isn’t a dedicated bike path, you don’t want to be driving this thing on the road. I don’t like this though. I really don’t like this with both drivers. Yep. Nope. That’s a big no. Big note from me, man. Nope. Nope. That’s a no. No, no, no. I did not like driving this thing on the road with the Perth drivers for one, and I can see where there’s going to be issues potentially down the line. I also really don’t like using them on the sidewalks. Now, you got to have to have a lot of self-control and a lot of common sense to be able to drive these things on a public sidewalk because you’ve got not only cars pulling out of driveways, people walking with headphones, little, you know, kids walking around like you can’t be driving these things at, you know, even 20ks an hour and passing people and all you you really got to be cautious when overtaking someone. It’s coming around you. You’re all good. I got a motor. I’m cheating. Because again, these bikes are quick and you can come up on people real fast. And if somebody is got headphones on, they just wanted to cross the road or they’re doing something, they don’t know you’re behind them. That’s where we’ve had really bad things happen. And this is recent. the crackdown following the death of Manura father Tarn fan struck by an alleged drunk and speeding tourist riding an escooter last weekend. And it’s something that actually shook I think many of us to know that as a pedestrian you could be seriously injured and lose your life uh because of an incident like this. They are they are sketchy. Like I’m going to say it. If you’re not a confident bicycle rider, I wouldn’t recommend hopping on one of these things. and holding the throttle down. I’m a motorcycle kid. I grow motorbikes. I’m a good rider. But yeah, I could see a lot of people getting themselves in trouble on these things and I guess that’s what they’re afraid of is they’re going to get themselves in trouble and maybe hurt somebody else in the process. Now, we’ll leave you guys a link down below if you want to check out my exact ebike. It is the X70. And if you want to get $100 off your order if you are going to buy this thing, just type in X70 at checkout. You’ll get 100 bucks off. Uh again, that’s the exact one I got. Really actually quite enjoy this thing. But guys, you also have to anticipate that all of these councils, a lot of these cities we’re living, you know, here in Australia, they are all very very push the cycles, push the cycle paths, push all, you know, push everything. So, I used to work for the city of Sterling. I used to rip out roads and I was constantly putting in cycle paths, putting in all this garbage I used to call it. Now, fun fact, this exact section I remember doing. So, we had to take all this out, put all this garbage in. This used to be a two-lane street, put all these curbs in, wind it out. And these are public houses right here. And we I remember this one. This guy was absolutely off his head. Like smashed all the windows in, spray paint, like just trashed the entire house. And I think one of these homes like some a young couple got and I seen them moving in and it was like I was tearing up the road. This guy over there was absolutely cooking his house like trying to fight everybody. Police were getting called and these guys were moving in to their house that they just bought. And I was like I felt so bad. today because not only were we [ __ ] the road up, they probably didn’t realize that was public housing and the dude was an absolute off his head case. Really bad. It’s also a bit of a catch 22 with uh with with these governments and these councils because they want you on a bike, but they don’t want you on an illegal ebike. You know what I mean? Like it’s they want you on a they want you in a battery Tesla or whatever it is, but they don’t want you on the battery bicycle because that’s too too dangerous or that’s too much fun. Caught out by a Brisbane Blitz on personal mobility devices. Why were you traveling so fast? On one day, a focus around the story bridge resulted in 90 fines. You’re going to receive a fine exceeding the 12 kmh speed limit. Exceeding the speed limit responsible for 34 infringements. Not wearing a helmet. The other costly error, some doubling the damage. The fine for not wearing your helmet, it’s 143 and for exceeding the speed limit on a foot path, it’s another $143. $286 in total. An expensive reminder of the rules around riding. Police out again today reinforcing the message. I just had to show this guys because again, of course, it’s clown world 2025. It’s Australia. It’s revenue raising and as soon as anything fun comes out or anything they see that they can revenue raise on it happens. And just look at what this was. Like I believe this was in Queensland. Um, bro, they’re literally sitting there with a radar gun pinging electric scooters and electric skateboarders and ebike guys for doing like 30ks in a 25k zone. You can’t make this up. Like, you can’t make this [ __ ] up. You look at some of these cycle paths that I was on and like it’s a full-on freeway. You can see for like a kilometer and it’s a dead straight road. There’s no reason you can’t do 50 on that. There literally is no reason. Now, yes, if you pass somebody or there is like a playground around or whatever it is, you should slow down. of course. I think if we can just boil back down to common sense and not just blitzing anyone on an ebike, blitzing anyone who’s classified as a hoon, blitzing anyone for doing one single kilometer over the limit. Like that’s not common sense. And if you actually had police doing their job properly, educating the public, being, you know, a community leader, I think you’d have a lot more community support to the police and two to do the right thing. So, I think this is the Goldilocks bike. I think the 750 kilow like 750 watt motor is a healthy amount. It’s not too crazy fast, but it’s not too slow. And yeah, I I I honestly think that’s the bike, man. That’s the bike to have. But I want to hear what you guys have to say in the comments down below. I’m actually really curious what you think. That’s the ebike debacle. Thanks for watching, guys. We’ll see you on the next video. She’s calling me a dog [ __ ] [Music]
