Ford Reveals Electric Bronco with 400 mile range & EREV with 1200km range!
Much of the world, including the United States, doesn’t get the Ford Bronco, the EV version. You know, it’s funny because China now has an electric Ford Bronco. The US doesn’t have a Ford Bronco that’s electric. It’s kind of insane actually considering the Ford Bronco is one of the most popular cars in America. In fact, in Australia, we could get an electric Ford Bronco before you guys do. Hello, my friends. Welcome to the channel. I’m Sam Evans. You’re watching the Electric Viking. Ford has opened pre-orders in China for an electric version of the Bronco and an e-rev version of the Bronco. And you can also get a one-touch roof camping package for $1,700 for free if you pre-order the car. Place a pre-order for $140. You get a rooftop camping pack package which includes an electric lifting roof and one-touch automatic folding front seat headrest so you can make a bed out of all the seats. Design-wise, the the Chinese Bronco does look a little different to the American one. It’s a bit more streamlined. I mean, obviously, it wants to be a bit more arrow. So, that’s part of the change. But one big change that you’re not going to, it’s not so obvious. You probably might not have noticed is it comes with a LAR system mounted on the roof and more than 30 high precision sensors and cameras. Plus, it has a kind of a floating roof design, slightly raised wheel arches, not quite as aggressive as the US made version, obviously. However, the dimensions, it’s a pretty big vehicle, right? It’s 5,025 mm long and it’s nearly 2 m wide. The extended range version is pretty much the same size as the EV version. The EV version is just a little bit lower. It’s 15 mm lower. So, so just over half an inch lower in order to improve range for the electric version. Speaking of range, the Bronco comes with a quite a big battery pack. It’s 105 kWh battery, NMC battery, 650 km of range. with that battery. If you want to get the extended range version, it comes with a 1.5 L turbocharged engine with two electric motors and it gets a 44 kWh battery pack. I believe it’s a lithiumion phosphate battery pack. Pure electric range is 220 km CLTC. So, probably about 100 miles on the EPA cycle of EV only range. Combined range 1,220 km. The Ford Bronco EV is the one I’d be going for. But to be honest, I think a lot of Americans would buy the E-Rev and the EV, but I think there’s not really many E-Revs available in the US. If you’re wondering what an E-Rev is, it’s basically Ford have just taken it they’ve built the electric version of the Bronco. Then they have basically converted the electric version of the Bronco into an E-Rev. So often plug-in hybrids are not really built up from the ground as an EV only. They’re more built as an internal combustion car that’s been converted into a plug-in hybrid. And often, not always, but often E-Revs are the opposite. They are built as an EV only. In this case, that’s what Ford’s done. They’ve made the electric version. Then, of course, the – version, they’ve added the small 1.5 turbocharged engine. Has the same motors essentially, but they made the battery pack smaller. You know, it’s less than half the size. It’s a 44 kWh battery. So, both of these options, in my opinion, are better than any of the Ford Broncos available in the United States, which is crazy. I mean, Ford, I really don’t understand what they’re doing because it’s cool, but it’s not really going to sell that well in China. In my opinion, these cars would have sold better in Australia or, of course, the United States, Canada, even other countries, Thailand, probably be a lot of demand for them as well. Hopefully, these are available outside of China. Hopefully, Ford actually exports this car. We know now a lot of legacy automakers like Nissen and Mazda are planning on exporting their Chinese-made EVs around the world. So, that could be an option for Ford. They might do the same thing. What’s going to enable Ford to deliver incredibly what they say and what appears to be incoming very affordable, incredibly affordable electric vehicles. I mean on we’re talking about the kind of price we’re seeing in China to create the future of auto manufacturing with Ford’s universal electric vehicle platform. This cutting edge platform will be the foundation for the next generation of vehicles. The best part is these vehicles will be affordable. Ford say that they they will plan to start selling a midsize as in Ford Ranger size electric pickup truck for around $30,000 in 2027 that can be built up to 40% faster than vehicles today. So Ford are finally saying, you know what, the the production line, the automotive industry production line, it can be changed drastically. What are they going to do to improve production 40% faster? I would guess use giga casting now like half of the Chinese industry are doing. That could be one of the ways. Maybe use structural battery packs that are like prek skateboards that are pre-made by some other company like Kadel. I don’t know. But apparently the truck will use a new Ford EV platform that executives say is as revolutionary as the product itself. Ford said on the 11th of August that its Ford universal EV platform will underpin eight different models starting with a pickup truck that will be closer in size to well similar in size to a Ford Maverick and a Ford Ranger. Sort of in between the two of them. Ford says the truck will have more interior space than a Toyota RAV 4, plus a front trunk, plus a truck bed for cargo. Honestly, I’m I’m all here for it. It sounds really good. The platform will utilize a new assembly tree process where three subasssemblies, the front, rear, and the battery platform will run down their own lines at the Louisville assembly plant simultaneously before being joined together. It’s similar to Tesla’s giga casting process, but maybe even better. [Music]
