My Second Review Changed Everything About This eBike | ADO Air 30 Ultra
what’s up electric heads welcome back to the channel and if you’re new here my name is Alish and I’m an electric bike reviewer and enthusiast and today I have with me the ADO 30 Ultra now if you are a usual to the channel you’ll know that I’ve already reviewed this electric bike actually at the beginning of this year however some things have changed now if you’re new to this bike this is a three automatic speed shifting electric bike this has three gears they shift you automatically and there’s a lot of cool other features as well but what’s really nice about this motor and the gearing is the fact that AJ and Puffang have teamed up to make this very special edition now when I reviewed this electric bike earlier last year there are a lot of great things to talk about but one thing that wasn’t quite right for me was the gearing particularly in that third or top gear now ADO took on that feedback and they have since updated the bike now I just want to make it very clear if you are watching this and you already have this bike behind me and you’re thinking “Oh wait i’ve missed out on the updated bike.” No you haven’t the one I was reviewing was a prototype every single ADO30 Ultra that has been shipped out is the way it is now so I thought it would just be good to do an up-to-date review so everybody is offay with what the ADO30 Ultra really has to offer now before I talk more about the updates let’s run through the spec and the features of this bike so we’re all up to date and then we’ll move on to what’s new the frame is made of aluminium alloy and is available in two sizes small and large i’m 178 cm or 5’10 so I have the large frame it comes with a custom Buffang 250 W motor in line with E regulation and three automatic shifting gears the assist is activated via a torque sensor for a natural feel of assist and is linked up to a carbon belt drive for a near maintenance-free setup for range ADO claims a max of 62 mi on one charge my recent test in the winter revealed that to be 34 mi or 55 km in sport mode but I could no doubt get extra in the warmer weather you can take the battery with you as it’s removable so that means easy charging if you can’t get your bike next to a plug it’s fairly weighty at 26 kg with all accessories included speaking of accessories you get a rear rack aluminium mug guards a 3.5 in centrally mounted display plus GPS tracking the seat post even has suspension to cushion your rides and you also get auto adjust sensor headlight to stay seen in the dark brakes are hydraulic and in total can take a max load of 120 kg now we’re familiar with what the Adio30 has to offer in terms of its spec and features let’s run over what has been updated since I first rode this bike and what is available to buy so first and foremost the ADO30 Ultra has had updated software as well as adjusted gear ratio so they’ve gone from 5820 to 5020 which basically is a small adjustment but what that should mean is a smoother ride and even better handling on inclines which I’ll be testing out a little bit later the assembly of the ADO30 Ultra was probably my least favorite part about doing that whole video and was one of the toughest builds I’ve ever done but thankfully ADO have now simplified the build because it was quite intricate so now all you need to do is the usual additional stuff including add the front wheel the saddle and the pedals and if you do need a step-by-step guide then ADO has also made a video so you can follow along to make it as easy and as simple as possible so I’ll make sure to link that at the top here the rear rack has also been upgraded from a steel rack to a one piece aluminum alloy design making the bike overall just a touch lighter the handlebar has also been updated to allow riders to raise the handlebar height which overall means that you’re going to be able to get a better posture when you’re riding which is particularly important if you’re doing those longer rides to help preserve your back and avoid back pain and finally the app has had an upgrade so rather than having to go into the app and try to connect the bike to the app it all does it automatically for you now so this is again a small change but something that makes a big difference when you just want to get on your bike and go so there’s lots of improvements here and one more thing that I wanted to add just in case you didn’t know and you’ve already got the bike if you want to change up the suspension in the seat post you absolutely can you can adjust it for more or less tension depending on how you want your ride to be it’s great to be back on the ADO30 Ultra but this time with its tweaks and first and foremost you can really feel the impact of the riser handlebar edition i’ve just got a slightly more upright positioning which gives me just a bit more protection on my back feels a lot more comfortable it’s only slight but these things make a lot of a difference particularly if you are going on those longer rides getting that positioning is really important and of course the suspension under the saddle is fab as well cuz to be honest that’s where you want the suspension to be that’s where you want the bumps and those surprise knocks to be softened off i’m turning right here i’m actually going to use the indicator aha now I don’t rely on the indicators but it certainly is a nice backup to have to let people know what you’re doing cuz they’re not really looking for indicators on the bike cuz that’s not really a standard thing so please do use them as a secondary addition rather than the main source of telling people where you’re going but let’s talk about the new ratios with the three automatic speeds now first and foremost you can see here I’m in eco mode actually but I’m going to switch up to sport mode all you need to do is press the power button twice and then the plus button and now I’ve hit top speed i’m in that third gear climbing a slight incline at the moment and it is better it is when I get onto more of a flat you’ll see that my cadence is much more suited to how I like it there’s certainly a bit less resistance now I’m on the flat now and there we are cruising at that top speed very enjoyable i will say though when I try and push through to try and go faster than 15.5 miles per hour it’s still a bit tricky now I think they’ve done the right thing with changing up the gears i don’t think they could have done much more because to be honest with you this is a 26 kg electric bike with all the accessories included okay that’s pretty heavy pushing through that that’s quite a lot of work on the legs and bearing in mind I’ve got my filming equipment on this bike as well so in total this bike is probably about 30 kg with that added that’s a lot of weight on the subject of ratios let me refresh you on when the gears kick in gear 1 shifts into gear two when you hit 8 mph or 13 km an hour and then gear 2 to three happens when you hit 12 mph or 19 km an hour the switch feels natural and the assist even more so which is down to the torque sensor adjusting to every stroke of the pedal and as ever you just feel so stable on this ebike because firstly you’ve got nice wide handlebars which means that you can really spread your weight out and it’s so easy to just do slight leans the bike will lean with you take those corners nice and easily but what it does mean is that it is quite wide for handlebars so squeezing through those tighter gaps can be with a little bit more caution needed and then of course you’ve got these lovely big wheels as well with super grippy tires which just gives you great contact with the road and it’s really enjoyable riding this bike slightly offroad as well i was doing it earlier along the green here and because of that suspension under the seat it makes it possible all right I’m back at my usual incline for the hill test now in the previous test that I did with this bike I was able to get up to about 20 km an hour or 12 mph in sport mode level three and in eco mode it was about the same but with a bit more effort now I would have been hovering at that speed around the second to third gear now that the ratios have changed I’m interested to see how the bike can handle the hills in a different way let’s find out i’m in sport mode level three okay and it’s taking the weight off nice it’s changed up to second gear i’m in 17 km an hour 18.5 putting a little bit of weight through my legs here up to 19.5 no problem at all it’s I feel like I’m in that second gear still i have to be and it’s making the climb pretty effortless I have to say just turn in here so that was nice i was kind of hoping to stay in that second gear because if I go up to that third gear obviously that’s where the resistance goes up even more when you’re on an incline you don’t really want that to happen but what it does mean is you are limited to a speed it means you can’t be going up to 15.5 mph or 25.5 km an hour because then you are going to be in that highest gear which makes it a little bit harder to climb to be honest when I’m testing out electric bikes I’m usually hovering around this speed anyway so having automatic gears isn’t really that much of a hindrance to be honest okay I’m going to go back down and I’m going to do it in eco mode now and all you do to switch is power button twice and press the up button and now I’m in eco all right brakes are great as ever oh there’s so many cars why so many cars like come on guys let’s all cycle let’s all cycle around the city you know okay eco mode pretty much standing start go yeah you can feel the difference okay switched up to second gear there pretty sharpish so I’m already in 16.5 km an hour 17 if I put a bit more weight through my legs I’m going to get it up to 18 so I’m staying in that second gear hitting nearly 12 miles per hour pushing through and that’s the exact resistance you want really on an incline it’s not too much it’s quite nice it’s manageable that was quite a nice cadence for me actually in eco mode definitely got my breath going so yeah hill test the ADO30 Ultra it can absolutely do hills the automatic gears do not hinder you in any way for me I was hovering around that second gear most of the time which gives you a pretty good cadence to climb that hill and remember it’s not about having to climb the hill fully without you doing any work it’s more so about having that assistance up a hill that you would much rather avoid or not even try to cycle up this gets you on your bike and gets you enjoying the ride it makes climate possible before we wrap things up I thought it would be worth giving you an update with a summer real world range test i’ve been riding this bike in around 17 to 20° centigrade mainly flat terrain with a few inclines riding mainly in sport mode with level three assist i weigh 68 kg and have had another 3 to 5 kg of cargo extra remember this all matters because differing terrain differing weights does affect range but I’ve managed to get around 38 mi of range on one charge addio claims a max range of 62 mi so I would be getting much closer to this if I were to be in eco mode all right gang real talk is this worth 1,999 i mean yes it’s a lot of money i think with these things you always have to see it as an investment because the amount of money that you will be saving over time is quite considerable if you’re spending money on trains on buses or even fuel for your IC car now this bike I mean there wasn’t much to complain about to begin with it was just the gear ratios ado have tweaked that they’ve made it better sure there could still be a little bit less resistance on that third gear but I really really do love this bike it’s a pleasure to ride it just makes things so smooth so simple so easy you don’t have to think about anything it just does the gears for you it makes the assist feel so natural you feel like you have some kind of superpower so the one negative I might say is that it is quite weighty i mean 26 kg with all the accessories on that is a lot of weight so this isn’t a bike that you’re going to be wanting to carry up and down the stairs particularly if you live on like the third or fourth floor and you don’t have a lift so those are my thoughts ado always come out with fantastic bikes and take it from me I think this is well worth the investment of course if you live on particularly hilly terrain I’d probably say go with gears rather than automatic shifters but you live somewhere like London a little bit flatter where you don’t really need to be thinking about taking on lots of inclines it’s a winner anyway I want to hear your thoughts if you already have the ADO can you let me know down in the comments what do you guys think have you been enjoying it if you’re thinking about it let me know your thoughts i can try and answer some of your questions hit that like button if you haven’t already cuz I hope that this video has been useful we can get this out to more people just like you needing the info and also hit that subscribe button if you’re new here cuz you’re definitely an Electra head if you are still here right now and let me know if there are any bikes you want me to review and I’ll see you for the next one
This isn’t the first time I’ve ridden the ADO Air 30 Ultra! At the start of this year I was lucky enough to be one of the FIRST to give this ebike a spin – and I found there was one main problem.
But ADO listened to my feedback and made sure that the release of the ADO Air 30 Ultra was stronger than ever. Now it’s been out for a few months, I decided to get back out for a test ride to see how it’s all changed and improved.
