The 2025 BYD Dolphin EV is a budget-friendly compact electric hatchback, with a starting price of around $29,990, positioning it as one of the most accessible electric vehicles on the market. Designed for urban and suburban commuters, the Dolphin offers a WLTP-rated driving range between 340 km and 427 km, depending on the variant. It’s built on BYD’s advanced e-platform 3.0 and incorporates the company’s Blade LFP battery technology, known for its safety and durability. Buyers can choose from several versions, including the 420 km Vitality Edition and longer-range Freedom and Knight Editions, which boast up to 520 km (CLTC).
In terms of design and space, the Dolphin adopts a practical five-door, five-seat hatchback layout. It measures 4,125 mm to 4,290 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width, and 1,570 mm in height, with a generous 2,700 mm wheelbase. Its compact footprint is ideal for maneuvering in tight city streets, supported by a tight turning circle of 10.5 meters. Despite its compact size, the Dolphin offers ample interior room and cargo flexibility, making it suitable for both daily commutes and short road trips.
Performance-wise, the Dolphin is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor with output options of either 70 kW (95 PS) or 150 kW (204 PS), depending on the variant. These are paired with BYD’s Blade batteries ranging from 30.72 kWh to 60.48 kWh, supporting both fast and slow charging (from 30 minutes to 6.41 hours). The top speed is capped at 150 km/h, and acceleration figures vary by model. With its mix of efficient performance, respectable range, and affordability, the 2025 Dolphin EV stands out as a practical and eco-conscious choice in the growing EV segment.
