BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Some may consider riding a bike as an old-fashioned way of getting around.
To Brian Gosdin, Executive Director at Redemptive Cycles in Birmingham, it’s a part of his daily life.
“I rode my bike from Homewood to work the other morning and back home in the afternoon,” said Gosdin.
On a daily basis, Gosdin said customers are in and out of the shop, especially as of recently.

Though the reason behind a purchase varies per person, Gosdin said it all comes down to convenience and cost.
“It’s a long walk or it’s a lot of waiting on a bus ride, it’s the expense to get an Uber, but if you have a bike, you can just get anywhere in the city that you need to go,” said Gosdin.
That same logic is spreading at car dealerships.
Lance Johnson with Birmingham Luxury Motors said more customers have shown interest in electric vehicles.
“We’ve had probably about a 30% increase in people looking at electric vehicles in the last month or so,” said Johnson.
From Tesla’s, Audi’s and GMC’s, Johnson said their show room draws customers in and with the rise in gas prices; Johnson feels that may not change anytime soon.
“The interest right now is for fuel prices. We have a lot of customers right now that are actually saving enough right now just paying for electric from their house. Some are more affordable, especially with the used EV’s coming down, you can get a used Tesla for $20,000,” said Johnson. “So, if you have a car payment that’s $300/400 and you’re not paying for gas it’s very economical for people.”
