The Chery group has confirmed that its Lepas L6 SUV will go on sale in the UK before the end of 2026 as it expands its European operation.

A sister car to the Jaecoo 7 and Omoda 7, the Lepas L6 will go on sale in the final quarter of the year in all-electric and plug-in hybrid variants. It will join the flagship Lepas L8, which is scheduled for a summer launch.

Lepas is the fourth brand from the massive Chery group and represents its more premium arm, sitting above Chery, Jaecoo and Omoda.

The C-segment L6 will make its European debut at Milan Design Week, where the brand will showcase styling that is apparently inspired by a leopard in motion. Ahead of its debut, the brand has shared external images but is keeping the car’s interior under wraps until later this month.

The all-electric Lepas L6 will use a 67kWh battery which Lepas says will offer up to 270 miles of range. Details of the motor or motors have not been confirmed, but it’s likely to share the 201bhp unit used by the Jaecoo E5 EV in order to compete with other C-segment SUVs. Lepas has said that the L6 will charge from 30-80% in 20 minutes, which hints at peak DC charging of around 110kW.

Alongside the pure EV model, a plug-in hybrid version will offer up to 700 miles combined driving range.

The only detail of the PHEV powertrain confirmed so far is that it will use a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a single electric motor. It’s likely that it will be identical to the “super hybrid” system in the Jaecoo 7 and Omoda 7, which produces a total of 201bhp and uses an 18.3kWh battery to deliver around 56 miles of electric range. It’s also likely to get the same 40kW DC charging – relatively fast for a PHEV.

There’s no indication of pricing or specification for the Lepas L6 yet, but with the brand positioned as the most “elegant” and high-end of the Chery family, expect a slight premium over the Jaecoo and Omoda equivalents, which start at around £35,000 and £32,000 respectively.

Commenting on the launch and UK market intent, Ray Wang, Lmanaging director of lepas UK, said: “The Lepas L6 marks an exciting step for our brand in Europe and, of course, the UK market – as we confirm this will be the second model sold. Combining our proprietary super hybrid and fully electric powertrains, the L6 delivers exceptional efficiency, impressive range, and rapid charging – all tailored for British roads.”
