MG, a brand known for offering a range of affordable EVs, has unveiled multiple new electric cars at the popular Melbourne motor show this weekend, including an electric ute.
The first reveal to the crowds of more than 100,000 attendees was the MG4 Urban EV, which we drove last month, an affordable electric hatch which starts at $31,990 driveaway, with customer deliveries starting this month.
Along with that, the attendees got a sneak peek of the refreshed MG4 RWD with the 64 kWh battery variant, called the Essence 64, which will come in at $39,990 driveaway.
Meanwhile, the performance AWD variant, the MG4 X-power, will now be priced from $47,990 driveway. This is considerably cheaper than the original MG4 X-power, which started at $59,990 plus on-road costs, making the driveaway price close to $65,000 in late 2023.
Another model that made its debut was the MGS6 electric SUV, which is larger than the MGS5 SUV that went on sale in 2025.
The S6 EV will have an expected range of 530 km on the WLTP cycle, while having DC charging times from 10 to 80 per cent in around 38 minutes.
It will also be available later this year in both RWD and AWD variants, offering more choice to buyers looking at MG’s electric SUV lineup.
One other product that surprised many was MG’s electric ute, the U9 EV. At the unveiling, it surprised the crowds with its size, although detailed specs of this model and the official local launch timeframes will be revealed at a later date this year.
“From new electric models to future-focused technology, our goal is to make modern mobility more accessible than ever, while continuing to innovate across our vehicle range,” Dimitri Andreatidis, Marketing Director at MG Motor Australia, said
With a strong focus on the upcoming EV lineup, it’s clear that the brand wants to attract new and existing owners to its extensive portfolio of electric cars in 2026 as it launches these cars into our market at various stages this year.
We look forward to checking these models out as they launch in the months to come. If the MG4 Urban EV we recently drove is anything to go by, the upcoming vehicles will help bring fuel bills down for thousands of buyers who won’t be disappointed with the tech these bring as they make the switch to these EVs.
