More ELECTRIC vehicles CANCELLED as demand evaporates | MGUY Australia

Good day. Welcome back to the channel and welcome to another MG Guy EV quickie. In this one, we’re going to take a look at a couple of articles about a subject that I’ve talked about many times before and that is trying to make performance cars or big trucks uh as EVs is something that people are just not going to be interested in. Uh obviously performance cars uh like the one we’re going to talk about today is the Audi RS6. um the RS, the Ren Sport line, which is the ultimate kind of sporty line in the Audi uh model range. Um and they were considering making an electric version of the RS6. And what a surprise, they’ve decided to abandon it because nobody would want it. The Audi RS6 EV is dead on arrival. According to Audi, there wasn’t enough demand to justify its development. What a surprise. Automakers are in a tough spot. Electric vehicle adoption isn’t progressing as quickly as many had expected, prompting companies to reassess their strategies. Several manufacturers have already cancelled planned EV projects, and the latest casualty appears to be the Audi RS6 Ron. According to insiders speaking with Top Gear, Audi has canled the RS6 Ron project due to insufficient demand to justify its development. The news comes as a surprise, especially since spy photographers spotted what appeared to be an RS6 Ron prototype testing in 2023, though it may not carry that badge after all. When contacted for comment, an Audi spokesperson declined to address rumors directly, but said, “Nevertheless, we can assure you that we are working on performance models based on the premium platform electric PPE. The PPE platform is a shared EV architecture developed by Audi and Porsche, underpinning models like the Macan EV and Audi Q6 Ron. Previous reports have suggested that a high performance Audi on this platform could produce over 700 horsepower. High-end buyers are losing interest in high performance EVs. The segment has lost its exclusivity, especially when a car like the Highendai Ionic 5N offers 641 horsepower, a 0 to 60 time of 3.3 seconds, and a starting price of just 67,800. Luxury automakers are feeling the shift. Brands like Pagani and Kernigseg have publicly stated that their customers have little to no interest in electric supercars. Ferrari reportedly delayed its second EV due to zero demand. And even Lamborghini’s first electric vehicle may be dead on arrival. Well, this doesn’t surprise me. It shouldn’t surprise you. People don’t buy these performance cars to have just a battery and electric motor. They buy it for the engine. Uh the beating heart of these amazing cars. Certainly not a bland eco blob battery and electric motor. And so another story linked uh with probably the best headline that I’ve read for a while. Ram 1500 REV electric pickup truck is dead before it could pile up on dealer lots. Excellent. If you aren’t already sitting down, I promise you’re going to want to do that right now. We have shocking news and it really isn’t the kind of thing you should read standing up. Citing an email sent to members of the Ram Insider Plus program, Edmunds reports the Ram 1500 REV is officially dead. Yes, the fully electric Ram pickup that was initially announced with an optional 229 kWh battery will never see the light of day. If only we could have possibly seen this coming. We could have been more prepared. Okay, so yes, Ram did announce back in December that the 1500 REV had been delayed. And sure, we also learned back in January that Ram would no longer offer the 229 kWh version with an estimated 500 mile range. Oh, and then we learned in April that the heavyduty version of the upcoming electric pickup truck had also been scrapped. And yeah, we already knew Dodge was struggling to sell the electric charger. And of course, Ram just brought back the V8 with a symbol of protest badge. But still, it’s not like there were any signs the American arm of Stalantis might bail on its electric truck. Nobody wants electric trucks. Unless you’re a fanboy of Tesla that wants a Cyber Truck. Nobody wants an electric truck because they don’t do the job that trucks are supposed to do. And similarly, if you’re going to spend money on a sports car like an RS, Audi, you’re going to want one with a petrol engine in it, and you’re not going to want a battery and an electric motor, which just turns it into a bland eco blob. So, it’s very interesting to see uh lots of planned EVs being cancelled because simply people do not want them. All right, that’s it for this one. Thanks very much for watching. How many people would want an electric Audi RS6? About the same number of people that would want an electric Ferrari, or an electric Lamborghini – i.e. ZERO.
