Mercedes C-Class EV Cabin Shown Before Full RevealMercedes-Benz

The Mercedes-Benz C-class EV will be revealed in full on April 20, but we’re getting a first look at the cabin today.

The C-class EV follows the lead of other new Mercedes models in offering the dashboard-spanning Hyperscreen.

The electric sedan will also offer a Burmester 4D surround-sound system, a panoramic glass roof embedded with light-up stars, and a new vegan cabin upholstery.

Mercedes-Benz just can’t get enough of giant screens. Nearly every model in its lineup offers glitzy, dashboard-spanning displays, from the top-dog S-class to the new GLC-class EV and even the entry-level CLA-class EV. Now Mercedes-Benz has revealed the interior of the upcoming C-class EV, a new electric sedan that will take on the BMW i3, and it too goes all in on digital displays.

The C-class EV will come standard with what Mercedes calls the Superscreen and will come with the more complex Hyperscreen as an option. While both setups feature screens across the dashboard, only the Hyperscreen has these displays seamlessly connected, as seen here. There are 10 color schemes available that coordinate across the display and pair with optional ambient lighting that glows from the doors. The C-class EV also has the optional Sky Control roof, where Mercedes has fitted 162 tiny illuminated stars into the glass.

Mercedes describes the C-class EV’s cabin as a “crafted sanctuary” and says it will be more spacious than the interiors of past C-class vehicles, thanks to its electric powertrain and a standard panoramic glass roof. The interior will come in three colors—black, Beech Brown, and Macchiato Beige—and there are several trim options, including a white open-pore natural fiber look and open-pore birch wood in gray or brown. The air vents, speaker grilles, door handles, and seat controls feature a cool metallic finish, and buyers who upgrade to the Burmester 3D and 4D surround-sound systems gain stainless steel speaker grilles.

Mercedes promises high-quality materials, with an optional “Twisted Diamond” pattern on the nappa leather upholstery. Buyers can also choose AMG Line leather seats that come with fine moccasin stitching on the side bolsters. The C-class EV will also be the second Mercedes after the GLC-class EV to offer vegan interior upholstery certified by the Vegan Society, an independent charity.

The front seats have been designed to minimize fatigue on long trips thanks to electropneumatic four-way lumbar support and a massage function. The seats are also ventilated, and, with the Burmester 4D sound system, include exciters integrated into the seats that create vibrations that let you feel the music as you listen.

Mercedes boasts that the new automatic climate control system heats up twice as fast as those on its internal-combustion models, while only requiring about half the energy thanks to a new multi-source heat pump. Mercedes also claims the C-class EV will be incredibly quiet, thanks to a combination of sound deadening, aerodynamic design, noise-insulating glass, and a new air conditioning system.

The C-class EV is expected to live alongside the gas-powered C-class for some time. Mercedes boldly proclaims that it is “the best and sportiest C-class ever” and says the C-class EV will be revealed in full on April 20.
