Ford Reveals Revolutionary EV Platform Using LFP Batteries + $30k Pick Up!
It will offer for the first time fast charging. It will have amazing range. It can power your house for 6 days. You don’t need a generator. You just buy this truck. And we’re going to start the vehicle at $30,000. Ford says its new electric car platform will be unbelievably affordable. We’re talking $30,000 for an electric pickup truck. I don’t know if there’s even an internal combustion version that’s that price. I don’t think there is. Hello, my friends. Welcome to the channel. I’m Sam Evans. You’re watching the Electric Viking. What’s going to enable Ford to deliver incredibly what they say and what appears to be incoming very affordable, incredibly affordable electric vehicles. I mean on we’re talking about the kind of price we’re seeing in China to create the future of auto manufacturing with Ford’s universal electric vehicle platform. This cutting edge platform will be the foundation for the next generation of vehicles. The best part is these vehicles will be affordable. Ford say that they’re they will plan to start selling a midsize as in Ford Ranger size electric pickup truck for around $30,000 US in 2027 that can be built up to 40% faster than vehicles today. So Ford are finally saying, you know what, the the production line, the automotive industry production line, it can be changed drastically. What are they going to do to improve production 40% faster? I would guess use giga casting now like half of the Chinese industry are doing. That could be one of the ways. Maybe use structural battery packs that are like pre skateboards that are pre-made by some other company like Kadel. I don’t know. But apparently the truck will use a new Ford EV platform that executives say is as revolutionary as the product itself. Ford said on the 11th of August that its Ford universal EV platform will underpin eight different models starting with a pickup truck that will be closer in size to well similar in size to a Ford Maverick and a Ford Ranger. Sort of in between the two of them. Ford says the truck will have more interior space than a Toyota RAV 4, plus a front trunk, plus a truck bed for cargo. Honestly, I’m I’m all here for it. It sounds really good. The platform will utilize a new assembly tree process where three subasssemblies, the front, rear, and the battery platform will run down their own lines at the Louisville assembly plant simultaneously before being joined together. It’s similar to Tesla’s gigcasting process, but maybe even better. The platform reduces parts by 20% versus a typical vehicle. So, it’s far more efficient than building an internal combustion truck or an internal combustion vehicle. Ford says there will be 25% fewer fasteners and 40% fewer workstations. I mean, giga casting, that’s pretty much what that does. Ford also says the truck will be powered by lowerc cost lithiumion phosphate batteries from a new plant in Western Michigan. And they also said it will be profitable. Now, I don’t know if that’s true, but hell, I mean, if Ford can sell hundreds of thousands of them, it it could be profitable. Obviously, Ford has lost on average around 3540,000 US per EV it’s sold over the past couple of years, but um that’s cuz it really only sells them in small numbers. We’ve all lived through far too many good college tries by Detroit automakers to make affordable vehicles that ended up with idled plants, layoffs, and uncertainty, said CEO Jim Farley in a in a statement. So, this had to be a strong, sustainable, and profitable business from day one. We knew there was no incremental path to success. We empowered a tiny skunk works team three time zones away from Detroit. We tore up the moving assembly line concept and designed a much better one. And we found a path to be the first automaker to make prismatic LFP batteries in the United States. Ford says it’s investing $2 billion in its Louisville assembly to retain 2,200 jobs. The plant currently employs about 2,800 people. And the other 600 jobs will um well, they’ll either be fired or if they want to, if they got transferable skills, they might be able to work in other locations. Ford plans to expand the plant by 52,000 square feet to move material more efficiently. said as part of the announcement, Ford confirmed that production of Louisville Assembly’s current products, the Escape and the Lincoln Corsair crossovers will end. In other words, this factory will basically be a a mega EV factory just making well, for starters, this electric pickup truck, but apparently this revolutionary platform will underpin eight different types of cars. I’m going to guess an SUV. uh maybe a midsized and a small and a large SUV. That’s where the market’s kind of heading now. Maybe even also a large electric pickup truck like an F-150 or maybe even an F250. That’s where I think the future is going anyway. But 2027, it sounds like is the year for Ford. I’m, you know, I’m not convinced Ford can bring out a $30,000 electric pickup truck in 2027. Inflation, everything else, all that stuff, but I am convinced whatever they’ve done it sounds good. It sounds like they’ve completely changed the way they’re producing vehicles. That’s what they had to do. They had to revolutionize it. It was too slow. It was too old school. And you know what, Jim Farley, he’s a good CEO. He is. You know, Ford’s um it’s had some challenges. I mean, warranties are a disaster for them. They have more warranty recalls than any other company in the world the last eight out of 10 years, I believe. But maybe they can turn things around. I hope they can. And you know, you never know, maybe Ford’s going to save its own bacon with the most revolutionary electric vehicles we’ve ever seen, which is what they’re claiming. I hope they do. What do you guys think? Is this Is this going to happen? Are you here for it? I mean, are you excited? Like Like I am. I’m I’m I’m serious. I’m not even joking. I I think this is really cool. Lithium phosphate batteries, revolutionary new platform, Giga Casting, affordable $30,000 electric pickup truck. Um, Ford actually may be taking electric cars quite seriously. So, yeah, great news from people who have never owned an electric car before. There’s a lot of concern about how long batteries will last. Heaps of concern. I mean, people are panicking over this. Never mind the fact that pretty much all all car companies are warranting batteries for 8 years, which they don’t do for engines. And they’re also saying that at the 8year mark, your battery must have 75% capacity or they’ll replace the battery. And that would suggest to you that companies are very confident in how good batteries are today. However, there’s still the myth out there. The myth is still very perva per pervasive that EV batteries don’t last very long and you have to replace them after a few years time. I have read this many times over the past few months. Many many times in the comment sections um you’re going to have to replace that that battery in your EV in a few years time. It’s going to cost you as much as the car. Never buy an electric car. That’s a terrible terrible idea. Hello my friends. Welcome to the channel. I’m Sam Evans and I’ll be at the light commercial show this week on Thursday and Friday. Would love to see you there. 50% discount on tickets. I’ll put a link to those tickets in the description below just to clarify. Um if you get the tickets, I don’t actually make any profit on that. After more than 250,000 miles, Ford the Must um there is one version that has been tested. This I think this is the longest basically the the Mustang McKe that’s done the most mileage. It’s done 250,000 miles and still has 92% battery life. Now, this is not the only car I want to point out. There’s other cars that have done similar range to this. Um I think it’s worth pointing out the the battery degradation in Volkswagen there. There’s actually an ID3 car with battery degradation similar a Hyundai Ioni 5. I’ll have a look at those those in just a moment. When David Blankel bought a Ford Mustang McKe for use in his private car um actually ride hailing service. So he’s driving it as driving it as an Uber. He um well why did he buy an EV? said for stable fuel costs or very cheap fuel, reduced maintenance needs, better uptime, lower total cost of ownership than internal combustion. And in the three years and more than 250,000 miles since, um, the car has clearly outperformed what he believed. [Music]
