Plug-In Hybrids: Not The Solution You Think

…Source: https://insideevs.com/news/736456/plug-in-hybrids-vs-evs-2024/ Transcript: Per InsideEVs, a new J.D. Power study reveals that plug-in hybrid vehicles may not be the ideal solution many believe. Despite being marketed as a compromise between electric vehicles and traditional gas-powered cars, plug-in hybrids are more expensive and less satisfying to consumers.

The report shows that the average transaction price for a plug-in hybrid compact SUV is $48,700, while traditional hybrids cost $37,700, and full electric vehicles average $36,900. Plug-in hybrids also make up just 2% of the market, compared to hybrids and electric vehicles, both at around 10%.

The study highlights that many plug-in hybrid owners may not even charge their vehicles regularly, leading to higher fuel consumption compared to standard hybrids. Additionally, they lack fast-charging capabilities, making them less convenient for those without access to regular charging.
