Shim found in sunroof after new paint job

Shim found in sunroof after repaint

How did this happen?

The dealership is not giving me much information on what happened here.

Basically, I brought my car in for a recall on paint and almost all panels including the top of the car was repainted.

Fast forward 2 years later, I start getting rain water trickling down onto the floorboard and soaking the floor.

After the dealer took it apart and diagnosed the problem by taking it in a car wash, they found that water was leaking through the sunroof assembly and there is a shim wedged in the sunroof with paint on it. The same color as my car.

They are now wanting me to pay nearly 4k for replacement and 400$ for them to diagnose their mistake.

I’ve barely ever even used this sunroof and it’s never been wrecked and now they are saying it might need to go to the body shop.

I declined paying that and so water damage could continue.

Pictured is the tech pointing to a cracked area below the wedged shim.

I’m pissed
