Hi everyone ! I need some thoughts on this ‘78 corvette 25th anniversary i am considering buying. It has the 5.7l L82 engine, working AC, around 200k kms on board. It’s already registered as a historical vehicle so i pay lesser taxes. It’s listed for 19.900€. Would this be worth it ? I’m looking at either this corvette or a ‘64 mustang coupe. Thanks !

Look at the underside, bring a magnet. A quick walk around video won’t tell you much
Yes, but I’m an emotional buyer and this is a cool car.
I’d offer a little less than sticker just to feel like I’m getting a deal. 👍🏻
Very cool vehicle
Buy all the C3’s Once you have 1 buy another.
I can’t comment on the UK prices, but that car looks loved. I can’t imagine it would be easy to keep that car in that shape in the UK without it being in good shape, Nothing screams bad shape. Just look in the doorframe for any rust on the bird cage and buy it.
Looks good.
Test drive to make sure the transmission shifts correctly and no issues with suspension that would indicate a hard hit that wasn’t repaired correctly.
This was made in an era or poor performance due to emissions, so find out about any modifications the prior owners have made.
Let us know if you buy it!
It’s a great body style. Performance was poor due to emissions era restrictions (low HP), but it has a 350ci engine with LOTS of upgrades available, so it can have power if you want it to.
Disco Vette. These got as low as 180HP. Four door Dodge Monaco was faster that year.
Think of all that baby boomer puss you can get now. Gross.
The gas tank is a black hole, say goodbye to your wallet.
If you’re looking for a trouble-free daily driver, this ain’t it. If you’re looking for massive burnouts and drifting, this also ain’t it. But if you enjoy car shows, lots of admiring glances, and attention in the parking lot please preserve this piece of Americana. This looks to be a well cared for survivor.
I personally would try to find a local shop that would do a pre-purchase inspection for me.
My dad has a 82 and I’ve got to drive it a few times. Super fun drive even with the automatic and 202 hp
The car has a few minor paint issues, and the engine just sounds ok. Low horsepower that others have mentioned really doesn’t matter with a classic like this; the experience driving it is more than going crazy fast. I would have liked to have seen the engine compartment, but otherwise, the pluses I see outweigh the minuses with this car.
The ‘64 has more collector value as well as coolness. The ‘78 vette is nothing special, underpowered, and I wouldn’t pay more than 15000 CAD
It looks pretty darn good with that many kms on it. Can’t really say if the price is fair because you are in England and not in the US. My big concern for you is if you plan on using it as a daily driver, it’s going to be tough to park it on the street with how tight the parking spots are. That hood is LOOONG and judging available room in front of you is tough. good luck with whatever you decide to do.
The 64 Mustang is Ford Falcon with a cool body bolted to the frame.
Is the mustang a T5?
How much?
If the engine is in a good shape, go for it.
If the price is agreeable.
Don’t buy it!! White upholstery is a bitch to keep clean.
I always heard these were the most lemon-y model of the vettes. Still my favorite, style wise, though. You’d look super cool, and it might cost you a little bit. Do your homework first.
If the C3 is your thing. I’m not the biggest fan but I’d still give you a thumbs up if I saw you!
Well, it sure looks like a nice car…. But, I don’t know what the selling price converts to in US dollars. Corvettes are an aquired taste for sure, and can have many hidden issues. I would have it inspected by a shop that is familiar with vettes and their issues.
The 64 Mustang usually suffers from hidden rust/bad repair issues. You really need to get it up on a lift, and have a good body shop look it over…
That is incredibly expensive, I bought a 76 for 10 and put another 10 into it (USD) and it’s still just under that price so for a 78 that is a bit much
20k seems a bit steep for a disco-vette, but i dont know your market.
What are the chrome bumper cars going for?
The vette is nice. If the engine goes bad, there are a lot of better gm 350s out there. The price isn’t terrible and it looks well maintained.
I’d buy this is a second….
By casual appearance, possibly but; it is an automatic and there is no view of the mill nor the undercarriage to show for rust or the deterioration of the rubber bushings/grommets/hoses. It would have been nice to also view the 1964 ‘pony’ car to give a balanced opinion.
At that price it better have a pristine frame and birdcage.
