Important context needed. The CEO is saying that they don’t intend to do the “full dashboard Apple CarPlay” that Apple announced a few years ago which takes over the car’s entire systems including the gauge cluster.
Mercedes still intends to offer “normal” CarPlay / Android Auto for those customers who want it.

We have Apple CarPlay. We have Android Auto. If, for some of the functions, you feel more comfortable with that and will switch back and forth, be my guest. You can get that, too. But to give up the whole cockpit head unit — in our case, a passenger screen and everything to somebody else — the answer is no. You’re stepping into your Mercedes cocoon, your Mercedes rolling living room, and the furniture and the digital stuff are from Mercedes. Welcome to Mercedes. That’s it.
i mean MBUX is already really good.
I used to love Car Play in all my cars. When I recently upgraded to a i4 I suddenly hated it 😂 my BMW literally motivated me to switch from Apple Music to Spotify as their integrated Spotify is really nice and I really much prefer the beemer nav over Apple Maps.
