Hmm if you asked any diesel Bro this same thing they’d say they failed every 300 miles🤣

One of my friends still thinks that you have to pay an annual fee for the batteries even if you bought and own the car.
Others complain about not finding enough places to recharge but will drive up to 50km over the border to get some cheap gas…

Yeah, but they do, the OEMs all try to avoid fixing it. One is as bad as the next. We may need legislation to sort this out.

If it happens so rarely, why aren’t OEM more generous?

I hope this results in a 300Mm 10yo warranty, so the opposition would ne annihilated

I don’t have an ev. My understanding is batteries typically gradually decline. Is this true or they gradually decline and then completely fail at some point? If they don’t completely fail they could essentially just turn into inexpensive city commuters no?

I admit I’m a little afraid of owning a ev with 100,000+ miles on it where this wouldn’t much on an ice car until 150,000. I simply don’t want to be the one holding the bag when it needs a battery replacement which is still currently way to much to be economical on every ev I have seen.

Chemically, all batteries age to death and I want to see longevity numbers with respect to calendar age, not number of cycles or manufacturing defects. I think we’ve established that number of cycles has reached a solid value and manufacturing defects are a thing in all objects and generally get better over time.

From what I’ve seen, 10-12 years appears to be the start of that calendar age for lithium based chemistries to degrade. This number is consistent with expected lifespan of storage type lithium batteries that a home solar system might use, hybrid HV batteries, and early EVs like Model S and Leaf.
