Smokers Dust?

Hey everybody. Just purchased a new to me Jeep Wrangler (sight unseen – I know), and when I got it, there is this tan-ish colored dust under EVERYTHING and in all nooks and crannies / under all the carpet. The interior also has an odd smell, but I am unsure if it smells like smoke, or dust? The vehicle is from AZ (2014 with 72k miles), and when I brought it up to the dealer, they said it was owned by an older couple that lived on a dirt road, but this seemed excessive to me. What are some tips to get rid of the smell? I can see it in all of the vents. Thanks guys.

  1. Been under water. Muddy water. The dust you see is what’s left over after it dries.

I lived in AZ for awhile and IMO that just looks like AZ moon dust. I’ve never owned a flooded car so I’m not saying it’s *not* that just saying it looks like dust.

As far as getting it out, I’d say shopvac and compressed air to vacuum the blown dust. If that’s too messy I guess a lot of damp towels could remove the majority of it in places like what you’ve shown.

Best case- this jeep was constantly driven in an extremely dusty environment with no top, then had a superficial detail before selling. Vaccum what you can and plan for some dust for the life of the rig. Had a cherokee that was 20% as bad as this.

Worst case- it was sunk and that’s leftover pond/lake/river residue that dried on after the jeep was pulled out.

Others mentioned a flood car, but that’s probably dust from AZ. They get dust storms there, and that shit gets everywhere. Wranglers aren’t exactly known for their protection from the elements.

For what it’s worth, I live in AZ and off-road a bunch and that’s what my truck looks like in every nook and cranny. It’s surprising where the very fine silty dust can find its way into. Unless you definitively know it’s a flood car, I’m sure it’s just from continued driving on dirt roads.

  6. Construction worker. It’s unavoidable on site work.

I’d get it professionally cleaned. It would be cheaper than breathing that crud and getting respiratory problems.

Cigarettes would build up tar over time. Do you mean ash? Also my guy have you ever driven down a dusty gravel or dirt road. Do you know what dust is?
