    Re: authentication & payments.

one thing I found interesting (buried in the comments section) is that the engineer interviewed said the protocols used for the CCS PLC communications to the Supercharger is not *entirely* ISO 15118, but a variation on it. Tesla did not want to disclose their own car to SC proprietary CAN method. So only vehicles that “speak” this new variation will be able to authenticate.

This is possibly one reason why Ford & GM are getting first crack at this, as they were already ISO 15118 Plug & Charge compliant so maybe there was less R&D involved.

We’ll see how well this works once GM & Ford have SC access since it sounds like a slightly new *ball of wax*. There may be still some kinks to work out. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)

I find it strange how in the comments there are so many people excitedly saying they are buying these before they know whether they will be able to use them with their cars, or whether their car manufacturer will provide them for free.

But the comments section has surprisingly good technical information. Including the fact that EVGo NACS connectors aren’t going to work on Ford or other non-Tesla NACS ports unless they change the communications setup they (EVGo) are using.

Needs to be tested, needs to be cheaper. I’ll stand back and watch for a bit yet.

I’m waiting on my free one from ford. Hopefully it actually shows up

Anyone know if these adapters also work for AC charging, e.g. with Tesla Destination Chargers and Mobile Connectors? Just curious.

I liked the engineer/consultant but man, there’s something about A2Z that just rubs me the wrong way and gives me sketchy vibes. Maybe I’m just misreading the whole thing and it’s actually a quality outfit with a premium product. Regardless, imma get my Ford-supplied adapter and roll with that one.
