“20 to 40 million” what? If you’re making an article at least make sense when you do it… journalism standards are 6 feet under at this point and stone cold

Not going to bother clicking on this since we’ve known for years (decades?) of large amounts of lithium existing in Nevada.
Its not a game changer. Lithium is super common. Its the other metals used in battery that are harder to find.
The problem with the cost of lithium is that its currently expensive to extract.

Nevada would be happier if it was 20-40 million of gold. 😁

It’s Thacker Pass. The main advantages of this deposit are that it’s near the surface, and could be strip mined. The problems are that it’s kind of a unique chemistry, so there are lingering questions about how much you can actually liberate from the clay, how to do it, and what the environmental footprint is going to be.
All that said, it will probably never be developed because permitting is such a nightmare in the US. I can only assume it will be bogged down in years of lawsuits from environmental groups.

Sure. Let’s dig that up and set it on fire. It’s was easy to put out wild fires in the west the last time around.

Won’t stop the anti EV folks from beating the “African slave labor” drum I bet…

The USGS’s Earth Mineral Resources Initiative and the DOE’s examination of energy-resources byproducts will identify many more sources of energy-related minerals. Stay tuned.
