The Folsom City Council will discuss electronic bikes and motorcycles Tuesday as it considers two proposed ordinances.
One potential ordinance would prohibit e-bikes and other applicable electronic vehicles from parks, playgrounds and school grounds unless signs specifically authorize their use. The other proposed ordinance would prohibit unsafe riding on certain bicycle paths and reinforce the 15 mph speed limit.
“The Police Department has experienced a significant rise in calls for service involving e-conveyance riders, particularly juveniles, on roadways, in City parks, and on bike paths,” Tuesday’s City Council meeting packet states. “These calls often involve dangerous, threatening, or destructive behavior.”
Folsom dedicated officers to conduct “zero-tolerance enforcement operations” this summer in areas where e-bike violations were commonly reported, according to previous Sacramento Bee reporting.
In a week’s time-span, Folsom police officers in early July educated 19 riders about e-bike laws, issued eight citations and towed two illegally-operated electric motorcycles.
The City Council’s meeting is slated for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 50 Natoma St., in the first floor council chambers.
