MG S6 EV 2026 review Australia: Biggest threat yet to popular new Tesla Model Y family SUV?
Stephen Ottley reviews the 2026 MG S6 EV as it arrives in the competitive Australian mid-size SUV segment. The local line-up launches with the Essence grade in two distinct configurations, including a single-motor rear-wheel-drive and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive flagship. Both variants utilise a 77kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery pack that provides a maximum claimed driving range of 530km for the entry-level model.
The exterior features a modern split-headlight signature and 20-inch alloy wheels across the range. Inside, the cabin the MG S6 EV offers a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster alongside a standard head-up display. Practicality is a core focus with a 581-litre boot and a dedicated front storage compartment that provides 86 litres of additional space in the rear-wheel-drive variant.
On the road the Essence AWD delivers 266kW of power and a 5.1-second sprint to 100km/h while the Essence RWD offers 180kW. The model includes five regenerative braking modes and a one-pedal driving setting to enhance efficiency. With a starting price under $50,000 drive-away, the MG S6 EV provides a value-driven alternative to the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7 and Geely EX5.
