Lathrop garbage rates may increase 4.89 percent on July 1.

The City Council when they meet at 6 p.m. on Monday will consider the rate request by Republic Services, the firm they are contracting with for municipal solid waste collection through 2029.

The new rate will take the monthly cost of a 90-gallon residential cart up $2.53 to $53.85.

Even with the rate hike, the monthly cost will be almost $5 less than Manteca’s $58.72 charge for 90-gallon cart service.

Lathrop’s 30 gallon cart is posed to go from $41.97 to $44.04 a month while the 60-gallon cart will go from $45.21 to $47.44.

Senior residential rates after July 1 would be set at $32.78 for a 30-gallon cart, $35.19 for a 60-gallon cart, and $39.72 for a 90-gallon cart.

Standard mobile home and trailer park rates will go to $36.82 for a 30-gallon cart, $37.54 for a 60-gallon cart, and $43.20 for a 90-gallon cart.

The senior mobile home and trailer park rates will go to $27.63 for a 30-gallon cart, $28.12 for a 60-gallon cart, and $32.18 for a 90-gallon cart.

Lathrop’s agreement with Republic Services allows for an annual rate adjustment based on the consumer price index that measures annual inflation.

Regulating e-bikes

& electric scooters

The council will conduct a public hearing regarding ordinance amendments to put in place additional enforcement measures involving electric scooters and e-bikes to address repeated safety concerns and protect pedestrians using sidewalks, parks, and trails.

Residents have reported concerns involving e-bike and motorized scooter operators:

* riding at speeds above 15 mph on sidewalks.

*near collisions between pedestrians and riders.

*motorized scooter riders operating without a helmet or driver’ s license/ learner’s permit.

Proposed changes to the ordinance will allow officers to impound e-bikes and such as well as ban their use on sidewalks.

The ordinance changes will provide an educational alternative to citations for first- time violators and authorize impoundment of devices used by riders who repeatedly exhibit prohibited and unsafe behaviors.
