LUCERNE VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A fatal traffic collision involving a dump truck and a Tesla was reported Wednesday morning on northbound State Route 247, also known as Old Woman Springs Road, near Lucerne Valley.

The crash was reported at about 10:50 a.m. on May 6, 2026, near mile marker 30.50, according to California Highway Patrol incident logs.

According to CHP incident logs, initial reports indicated a white dump truck and a black Tesla were involved in a head-on collision on northbound SR-247. The logs also noted debris and oil in the roadway following the crash.

San Bernardino County Fire responded to the scene and confirmed the collision was fatal. Firefighters reported one occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene and required extrication from the vehicle.

A passenger involved in the crash sustained minor injuries.

According to the logs, authorities requested Caltrans for a hard closure of the roadway as the investigation continued. The logs also indicated the dump truck, described as a dry bulk cement truck carrying approximately 48,000 pounds, was heavily damaged but remained upright following the collision.

CHP logs further noted an estimated 50 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the dirt shoulder. Officials reported the spill was contained and not threatening any waterways.

Traffic in the area was impacted as emergency crews worked at the scene.

The California Highway Patrol Victorville Station is handling the investigation. The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office will also respond to the scene.
