UTICA, N.Y. — A fire at the Kennedy Plaza high-rise has left 15 apartments unlivable.
Firefighters responded to an automatic alarm at Building 2 just after 3 p.m. They saw smoke coming from an apartment on the 12th floor facing State Street.
The building’s sprinkler system kept the fire contained to the living room of apartment 1206. Hazmat teams removed several damaged e-bike batteries from the scene.
Some apartments below the fire had water damage. In total, 15 apartments were affected and those residents are getting help from the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
