Synopsis: Ola Electric’s Roadster X has gained over 50% market share in key northern states, driving early leadership in the nascent electric motorcycle segment, supported by improving range, rising volumes, and growing momentum

The shares of this electric vehicle company that primarily manufacture electric vehicles and core components for electric vehicles are in the spotlight after it captured over 50% market share in the electric motorcycle segment across several major Indian states.

With a market capitalisation of Rs. 15,839 cr, the shares of Ola Electric Mobility Ltd were trading at Rs. 35.91 per share, down from its previous close of Rs. 37.28 per share. The stock has faced a decline of 32% over the past year and is down 33% in the last six months; however, it has shown signs of recovery with a 12% gain over the past three months and a sharp 55% rise in the last 3 months.

Dominance in Key Regional Markets

The Roadster X has quickly captured over 50% market share in the electric motorcycle segment across several major Indian states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh.

In some of these regions, the market share is estimated to be as high as 65%. This traction is notable because these states are historically dominated by internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycles rather than scooters, making them critical battlegrounds for long-term EV adoption.

Scaling the Electric Motorcycle Segment

While the electric scooter market is relatively mature, the electric motorcycle segment is just beginning to scale. Monthly volumes for electric bikes in India have grown from roughly 1,000 units last year to nearly 5,000 units in 2026.

Industry experts suggest that the segment is moving toward a “meaningful scale,” with motorcycles poised to become the next major growth driver for electric mobility in India.

Range and Technological Advancements

A primary driver for this shift is the reduction of range anxiety. The Roadster X variant boasts a claimed range of 400-500 kilometers on a single charge. This performance is supported by the company’s indigenously developed 4680 Bharat Cell, which has helped bring electric motorcycle capabilities closer to the expectations of traditional petrol bike users who often travel longer daily distances.

About the company

Ola Electric Mobility Ltd is an Indian electric vehicle manufacturer focused on building a vertically integrated EV ecosystem, including electric scooters, motorcycles, battery technology, and charging infrastructure. A subsidiary of Ola, it gained prominence with its S1 scooter range and is now expanding into electric motorcycles like the Roadster series.

The company reported a 150% month-on-month growth in vehicle registrations for March, crossing 1 million cumulative registrations. This momentum was further bolstered by the government’s PLI certification for their new Roadster X+ motorcycle, confirming its eligibility for state incentives and validating the company’s focus on local manufacturing.

In addition to sales growth, breakthroughs in battery tech have significantly improved investor sentiment. Ola successfully developed an in-house LFP battery cell ready for commercial use, which, alongside their existing 4680 cells, has allowed for substantial price cuts due to lower production costs at their Gigafactory.

These efficiency gains, paired with improved service operations where 80% of vehicles are now serviced within a single day, have restored consumer confidence and strengthened Ola’s dominant position in the Indian EV market.
