All-wheel drive versions of cars are loved for their added traction, but a notable tradeoff is that they’re also often gas hogs, at least compared to their gas-only counterparts.
One way to solve that thirst for fuel is to add a hybrid powertrain to the mix, and more automakers are doing just that to give their models the one-two punch of efficiency and control.
We’ve listed all the vehicles that match that description here in alphabetical order. Keep in mind that we update our rankings and reviews throughout the year as new information becomes available, so the data you see here may not match each model’s review.

More Information About All-Wheel Drive
What Is All-Wheel Drive?
If a vehicle is equipped with all-wheel drive, that means its drivetrain sends power to all four wheels to give the vehicle more traction – and therefore more control – in subpar driving conditions like rain or snow. Normally, a vehicle will engage its all-wheel-drive system automatically when it senses it is needed.
Are All-Wheel Drive and Four-Wheel Drive the Same?
No. All-wheel drive is designed to provide improved traction in all circumstances, and the vehicle usually decides when to employ it automatically. By contrast, four-wheel drive is geared toward specific use cases like off-roading. Also, four-wheel drive requires some know-how on the part of the driver, because they’re the ones deciding when and how to use it and telling their vehicle to act accordingly.
What Are the Advantages of All-Wheel Drive?
Compared to front- or rear-wheel-drive systems, all-wheel drive promises better handling in imperfect conditions, making it a good choice for drivers who often experience inclement weather for long periods during the year. All-wheel-drive systems also tend to return better fuel efficiency than four-wheel-drive systems, and some vehicles equipped with all-wheel drive are game for some light off-road driving. If you plan to take your vehicle off-road often, though, four-wheel drive is better (and safer).
