DALY CITY — A Tesla overturned on a freeway and caught fire early Tuesday, forcing the freeway’s closure in one direction, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened about 5:55 a.m. on northbound Interstate 280 at Serramonte Boulevard and kept the freeway fully shut down until about 8:35 a.m. At that point, the CHP opened the two far right lanes,

The other two lanes were opened about 10 a.m., after authorities had moved the Tesla and firefighters had extinguished the blaze.

. According to the CHP, the Tesla was the only vehicle involved in the crash, and the person inside of it was OK.

The fire and the challenge of putting it out caused authorities to close I-280 in the northbound direction at the Hickey Boulevard exit. Motorists were advised to use an alternate route.

Fire crews prevented the blaze from spreading.
