Peugeot is applying Euro 7’s GTR21 combined power protocol to its 3008, 5008, and 408 plug-in hybrids ahead of the deadline

Peugeot has renamed three plug-in hybrid models to reflect a new homologation protocol for combined powertrain output, ahead of the introduction of the Euro 7 standard. The Stellantis brand is applying the GTR21 protocol immediately, changing the certified power figures used in the commercial names of its 3008, 5008, and 408 plug-in hybrids.

Under Euro 7, GTR21 sets a new way of measuring the combined output of the combustion engine and electric motor in plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles. Peugeot is applying the protocol now, ahead of the regulation’s start date for new models on 30 November 2026 and for all new vehicles sold from 30 November 2027.

The 3008 and 5008 plug-in hybrids are now rated at 225 hp (166 kW) and renamed Peugeot 3008 Plug-in Hybrid 225 Auto and Peugeot 5008 Plug-in Hybrid 225 Auto respectively. The 408 plug-in hybrid is now rated at 240 hp (177 kW) and becomes the Peugeot 408 Plug-in Hybrid 240 Auto.

Peugeot said the affected vehicles undergo no technical modification, with performance, fuel consumption, and emissions unchanged. The new protocol also has no impact on the cost of the French vehicle registration certificate, the carte grise, which is calculated solely on combustion engine power.

The recently launched Peugeot 308 Plug-in Hybrid 195 Automatic already uses the new homologated combined power protocol. Peugeot’s early adoption signals a shift in how PHEV outputs will be communicated across the European market once Euro 7 applies more broadly.
