When: Council meeting, March 30. Blake Daub, council vice president, was absent.
What happened: Council agreed to move forward with drafting an ordinance prohibiting the use of electric vehicles in the borough’s park and recreation areas.
Background: In mid-March, the Denver Recreation Board submitted a recommendation to council to prohibit the use of electric bikes, scooters and one-wheels in the borough’s parks and recreation areas. In a previous recreation ordinance, larger motorized vehicles, such as minibikes, ATVs and go-karts, were restricted in these locations.
Details: The board noted that the borough’s park trails are too narrow to accommodate the electric vehicles in question, which can reach speeds exceeding 20 mph. These vehicles reportedly pose a hazard by interfering with foot traffic, with riders having been “by and large, not responsible” on park trails, according to Todd Stewart, council member. President Christopher Flory suggested that instead of a blanket ban, the use of electric vehicles should remain permitted wherever motor vehicles can travel. Council agreed to put forth this suggestion to the recreation board as the borough’s solicitor drafts an ordinance.
Zoning ordinance hearing: Borough manager Mike Hession said public hearing will be held May 11 about an amendment to the borough’s zoning ordinance. The amendment would allow historic industrial manufacturing buildings and properties in the borough to be repurposed. The change has been proposed in conjunction with plans to repurpose the former F&M Hat Co. site into a residential development.
Pool rates: Council approved updated costs for the 2026 season at the Denver Community Pool and Reamstown Pool. Starting May 23, the standard cost for an unlimited pool share pass for a household group of five members will rise from $310 to $335, with $30 for each additional person. Other price changes: adult pass, from $205 to $235; student pass, from $140 to $180. Rates are available on the borough’s website.
What’s next: Supervisors will meet Monday, April 13, at 7 p.m.
