Chery has unveiled its next-generation Rhino solid-state battery that could deliver more than 1,500 km of driving range on a single charge. The company says the battery is targeting an energy density of up to 600 Wh/kg, which is far higher than current lithium-ion batteries used in most EVs today.
One of the biggest highlights is ultra-fast charging. Chery claims the Rhino battery can add up to 500 km of range in just 8 minutes. The battery is also designed for around 5,000 charging cycles, which could make it last much longer than current EV batteries.
Chery plans to begin testing the all-solid-state battery in the Exeed ES8 from 2027. Before that, semi-solid-state versions are expected to debut in other Chery and Exeed models later in 2026.
The Rhino battery family includes hybrid, fully electric, and future solid-state versions. Chery is investing heavily in this technology with more than 1,200 battery researchers and over RMB 10 billion in funding.
