BIRGUNJ: A total of 497 electric jeeps, cars, and vans, valued at Rs 1.4864 billion, have been imported through the Birgunj border during the first seven months of the current fiscal year.
The customs office has collected Rs 963.6 million in revenue from these imports. In comparison, during the same period last fiscal year, 165 electric vehicles worth Rs 431 million were imported, generating Rs 355 million in revenue.
According to Uday Singh Bista, Information Officer at the Birgunj Customs Office, imports of electric vehicles have surged sharply compared to the previous year.
During the first seven months of the current fiscal year, 1,128 electric motorcycles worth Rs 805.7 million were imported, whereas 3,374 electric motorcycles valued at Rs 443 million were imported in the same period last year.
Meanwhile, 69 fuel-powered jeeps, cars, and vans worth Rs 1.16 billion to Rs 1.31 billion were imported in the current fiscal period, generating Rs 2.86 billion in revenue. In the same period last fiscal year, 748 fuel-powered vehicles worth Rs 1.5 billion were imported, contributing Rs 3.73 billion in revenue.
Overall, vehicles and spare parts worth Rs 23.57 billion were imported in the first seven months of the current fiscal year, compared to Rs 17.15 billion worth of imports in the same period last year, which generated Rs 13.26 billion in revenue.
