Yadea: Heritage and Development

Yadea is the global leader in the electric two-wheeler industry, both in terms of sales volume and technological innovation.

By December 2024, the company surpassed 100 million cumulative vehicle sales across e-bikes and e-scooters. However, this report focuses exclusively on the e-scooter segment.

Yadea played a central role in the rapid expansion of China’s electric scooter and moped market between 2017 and 2021. During this period, the company achieved market leadership not only in electric vehicles but across the entire two-wheeler industry, reaching a record 6 million units sold in 2021.

Market Evolution in China

Mobility patterns in China have undergone significant transformation. In major metropolitan areas, powered two-wheelers are no longer the primary mode of personal transportation. They have increasingly been replaced by public transportation systems and widespread car ownership.

While motorcycles and scooters remain essential in rural areas, this demand alone is insufficient to sustain overall market growth.

In parallel, several large cities have introduced restrictions on two-wheeler usage. Government policies have also evolved, shifting support toward higher-powered, more technologically advanced, better-performing, and more stylish electric vehicles.

As a result, the domestic EV market experienced a contraction. As the market leader, Yadea was directly affected, recording declining sales for three consecutive years and falling below 4 million e-scooter units sold in 2024.

Recovery and Global Expansion

Facing these challenges, Yadea intensified its investment and strategic development efforts. In 2025, these initiatives began to deliver results.

Global e-scooter sales rebounded strongly, reaching 4.8 million units, a 26.5% increase compared to the previous year. This growth was driven by a recovery in the domestic market as well as early success in international markets.

During the same year, Yadea expanded its global footprint by establishing 10 manufacturing facilities outside China, spanning regions from Latin America to ASEAN countries. The company is now playing a leading role in advancing electrification across multiple international markets.
