Volkswagen has recalled about 100,000 battery-electric vehicles, due to battery module issues.

The worldwide recall affects 75,000 of the automaker’s ID series and 20,000 Cupra Borns made between February 2022 and August 2024.

German regulators said the cars could experience reduced range and they may pose a fire risk.

Volkswagen will install a software update, inspect the battery and replace modules as needed, the company said.

About 28,000 of the vehicles were sold in Germany. Only the ID.4 and ID Buzz models are sold in America. The ID.4 is built at Volkswagen’s Chattanooga, Tenn., plant.
