Oxytech Pub Run 5, what an absolute ripper. Like any conquest men brag about over 7000 quiet adult bevvies, it was not without its challenges for some of us.
Pub Run is an event i organise with a good mate as a way of getting 43 legends together, who are all into cars, and have a weekend of driving, eating, talking BS, and drinking alcohol. This is our fifth event and we have over 90 people on an invite list (it's invite-only and Scotty and I handpick every entrant) but only 43 beds available at the pub we stay at, so its gotten very popular.
This year we had 23 cars which ranged from turbo LS HQ Holdens, a supercharged Holden V8 LC Torana, an awesome 11sec Ford '32 roadster, three 60s Pontiacs (including 2 Bonnevilles and a 66 4spd Tri Power GTO), Holden Commodores, a couple of Corvettes, a Mitsubishi Sigma (his Gen3 Hemi Valiant blew up), and a Honda NSX.
We met up at Scotty's business (Oxytech Powder Coatings) and, after a stupendous breakfast pizza and lots of banter, we hit the road 3 hours north to Tea Gardens. We also stopped in to see Adam at Mach1 Motorsport to check out some of the epic cars they have in the build. We had to leave Steve's Roadster there after it failed to fire at lunch around the corner.
We made it to Tea Gardens Hotel to enjoy putting an epic amount of grog in and around our wanton cake holes. Now the high point of the weekend for me was, after knowing him for 22 years, Brenden and i finally got to drive a couple of 1960s bagged American cars to a pub to have 4000 schooners.
Saturday we feasted heartedly at Mumms On The Myall, then hit the road heading for Dungog. We got as far as Clarence Town before my car ended up on a tow truck with a busted fuel line, but at least Kris, Luke, Chris, Al, Shane, Brenden and I found a RUDELY awesome pub nearby to whet the nonsense caves in our face. Kris, the absolute definition of a legend, then ran me 1hr back to Beresfield to drop my car off at Mach1 before taxiing me 1hr all the way back to Tea Gardens.
Sunday we once again stuffed our tape worms at Mumms, before Kris, again the poster boy of GCs, ran me back to Mach1 so I could fix my car with a new fuel line, while Steve's roadster was also quickly sorted. News soon came in that our fearless leader had his RB GTS on a tow truck with a wounded turbo and the green car curse ramped up later when Broads's thermo fan stopped working, but a quick roadside rewire and he made it home that night.
Pub Run was full of rad dudes, good times, great banter, and epic food and drinks. Thanks to everyone who came along and made it the most fun i have all year, and to Adam for opening up on Sunday to fix cars. Endless thanks to Scotty for allowing me to help put it together and for making it all happen. Can't wait for 2027!
