SAN JOSE — One youth was killed and another was injured in a solo-electric bicycle crash Thursday afternoon in East San Jose, marking the city’s third traffic fatality in less than a week, police said.

The crash happened just before 1:10 p.m. at the intersection of Remington Way and Allenwood Drive, San Jose police spokesperson Stacie Shih said in a news release.

An investigation revealed two youths were riding a Magnum Cosmo e-bicycle northbound on Remington Way when the driver lost control and “skidded to the ground,” Shih said.

Both riders were injured in the crash, Shih said. The driver was taken to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries, while the passenger was treated at the scene.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release the driver’s identity after it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.

The death marked San Jose’s third traffic fatality in less than a week and seventh overall traffic fatality of the year. A bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run collision near Coleman Avenue and Hedding Street on March 14, and a pedestrian was hit and killed by a driver while crossing Almaden Expressway near San Jose Avenue on Monday.
