It was Tesla’s biggest “mote” on the US EV market for years — its widespread, fantabulous, easy-to-use Supercharging network. Several years ago, Tesla offered to open it up to other automakers if they simply 1) helped fund it, and 2) made cars that were compatible. No one bit. Elon Musk said some automakers were interested, but then nothing happened. Fast forward to 2024 and the NEVI program President Joe Biden and Democrats had deployed to increase EV charging station deployment across the United States.

It’s unclear exactly how or why things changed in regard to Tesla Supercharger access, but this is the core info we have:

Tesla’s Supercharger technological approach was branded the North American Charging Standard (NACS), seemingly to be eligible for some NEVI grant funding.
Ford CEO Jim Farley was on a road trip with his family in an F-150 Lightning and determined that it would have been easier if they could have used Tesla Superchargers. Then he contacted Elon Musk and decided to make a deal to get Ford EVs access to the Tesla Supercharger network.
Then a bunch of automakers jumped on the bandwagon and did the same.
Eventually, nearly every automaker selling EVs in the USA made such a deal.

Stellantis was by no means first or even early, but it made a deal as well, and as of this week, if you have an EV from Dodge, Ram, Jeep, Fiat, or Maserati, you can get a $250 adapter and charger at applicable Tesla Superchargers (older stations are not compatible).

“Tesla Superchargers are now accessible using a Free2move Charge NACS-CCS1 DC adapter available for purchase at low-emission vehicle (LEV) certified dealerships and Mopar.com,” a press release published yesterday stated. “The app helps locate and identify available Tesla Supercharger locations, along with other publicly available AC and DC fast-charging stations, such as IONNA Rechargeries.”

These are the specific models that can charge using a NACS adapter:

Dodge Charger Daytona (model years: 2024, 2025 and 2026)
Jeep Wagoneer S (model years: 2024 and 2025)
Jeep Recon (model year: upcoming 2026)
Ram ProMaster EV (model years: 2024, 2025 and 2026)
FIAT 500e (model years: 2024, 2025 and 2026)
Maserati GranTurismo Folgore (model years: 2024, 2025 and 2026)
Maserati GranCabrio Folgore (model years: 2024, 2025 and 2026)
Maserati Grecale Folgore (model years: 2025 and 2026)

The 2027 Dodge Charger Daytona is the first Stellantis model that has a NACS charging port built in and won’t need an adapter.
