German automaker Audi has flagged the release of a new A2 e-tron, a compact electric vehicles (EVs) that the company hopes will “open up access to premium electric mobility”.
“We’ve listened,” declared Gernot Döllner, Audi CEO. “Our customers want electric mobility that impresses in everyday life. The A2 e-tron is our promise to deliver exactly that – efficient, compact, and confident. We’re making entry into the electric Audi world easier and more relevant than ever.”
With a proper unveiling due for the Northern Hemisphere’s Autumn later this year, there’s very little in the way of tangible specifics at this point, with the exception of the vehicle’s silhouette seen below in its first design sketch.

Set to be built at Audi’s headquarters in Ingolstadt, Germany, the A2 e-tron model family of EVs will target a broad international customer base in an intentional homage to the original Audi A2, which helped pioneer efficiency and urban mobility over 25 years ago.
Audi has spent the last two years launching over 20 new models and says it now boasts the youngest portfolio among its competitors, ranging from the fully electric compact segment to the premium full-size segment. The A2 e-tron will seek to strengthen Audi’s electric portfolio and open the way for new target audiences.
“The A2 e-tron is crucial for our brand and also for our German home,” said Döllner.
With the production of an additional fully electric model family in Ingolstadt, we are securing jobs and delivering electric mobility ‘made in Germany’.”
