The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation today issued a warning to electric scooter and motorcycle drivers, noting that it is an offence to drive either without a required permit and registration.
A release from the Ministry this afternoon stated that persons operating electric scooters and motorcycles without registration had been observed. As these vehicles are mechanically propelled it said, they are regulated under the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act.
Section 12(1) of the act, it notes, makes the use or possession for use of such vehicles that are not registered an offence.
Additionally, it said, it is an offence to drive a motor vehicle on the nation’s roads unless the driver is the holder of a valid driving permit for a motor vehicle of that class.
“Persons found in contravention of the relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act will be subject to enforcement action in accordance with the law.”
“The Ministry urges all road users to comply with the legal requirements to ensure public safety and the responsible use of the nation’s roadways,” it said.
