Families looking for a roomy SUV with a competitive price and strong fuel efficiency still have an option in the form of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, which has been enhanced for the 2026 model year. The changes represent a mid-cycle refresh for the three-row midsizer, which arrived in its current generation for 2022.
Mitsubishi this week announced a starting price of $43,245 for the 2026 Outlander PHEV, which is up $2,800 on the 2025 model. But even with that higher starting price, the uptick looks mild given the number of changes made as well as today’s tariff squeeze and the costs of building the vehicle in Japan. Pricing for the gas-only 2026 Outlander starts at $29,995, which is up $350 from the previous year.

The 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV benefits from most of the updates that debuted on the gas-only Outlander for 2025, including more sound-deadening materials, a larger 12.3-inch infotainment screen, and revised suspension and steering tuning. The styling received tweaks as well, with a revised hood and grille that improve fit and finish while cutting wind noise. New front and rear fascias and fresh wheel designs round out the visual changes, which were first unveiled nearly two years ago.

There’s more to love about the Outlander PHEV than before – and, price pending, it’ll be a real bargain in 2026.
The 2026 Outlander PHEV also gets several key updates unique to its powertrain. The most significant is a new 22.7-kilowatt-hour battery, up from 20 kWh previously. Paired with an improved cooling system and enhanced thermal management, this boosts the manufacturer’s claimed electric range to 45 miles and combined efficiency to 73 MPGe. Those figures compare favorably to the 2025 model’s EPA ratings of 38 miles and 64 MPGe.

Combined system output also jumps to a stout 297 horsepower, up from 248 hp in the 2025 model. We don’t have an official zero to 60 mph time yet, but Mitsubishi quotes 7.8 seconds for the prior version, though real-world testing has often shown it to be about a second quicker. The powertrain hardware remains largely unchanged: a 2.4-liter inline-four paired with an electric motor at the front axle and a second electric motor driving the rear axle. The gas-only Outlander packs a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four and mild-hybrid combo good for 174 hp.
Crucially, this also sets the Outlander PHEV apart from the Nissan Rogue PHEV, which is effectively a rebadged version of the pre-facelift Mitsubishi, and one with a higher price tag.

Stealthy Black Edition On The Way

The $43,245 starting price is for the 2026 Outlander PHEV’s base ES trim. Mitsubishi has announced that SE, SEL, and a new Black Edition trim will join it. The Black Edition builds on the already well-equipped SEL trim by adding a stealthy blacked-out aesthetic, including black wheels, black exterior accents, and, in some markets, a contrasting black roof option. Buyers seeking genuine performance upgrades will be left wanting, though.
Standard features and pricing for the full lineup will be announced closer to the market launch, which is confirmed for early May. The 2026 gas-only Outlander is already available to order.
