A hands-on electric vehicle event is coming to Brighton.

The Charge & Drive EV Experience Day will take place on Thursday, March 26 at Madeira Drive from 10am to 4pm and aims to give Sussex residents a chance to try out the latest electric and hybrid vehicles in a relaxed, pressure-free setting.

Visitors will be able to test drive a variety of electric and hybrid cars and vans, including models that can be booked in advance through Eventbrite or registered for on the day.

The event will also showcase electric motorcycles, scooters and commercial vehicles.

Dani Cort, marketing director at Believ, the event’s charging infrastructure partner, said: “Believ is delighted to sponsor Electra Connect’s Charge & Drive event in Brighton this March. The event brings together communities, industry leaders and local stakeholders to explore electric mobility, with hands on access to emerging technologies and the opportunity to test drive EVs. We’re proud to support an initiative that raises awareness and inspires meaningful progress towards cleaner, more sustainable transport.”

A spokesperson from the brand BYD echoed the value of test driving: “Events like Charge & Drive play a vital role in helping people understand what electric vehicles can really offer.

“Test driving removes uncertainty and replaces it with confidence.

“We’re proud to support an event that puts real experiences first, showcases the latest EV technology and helps drivers see how electric vehicles can easily fit into everyday life.”

The event is supported by Brighton and Hove City Council as part of its ongoing commitment to cleaner transport, better air quality and sustainable mobility.

Councillor Trevor Muten, cabinet member for transport and sustainability at Brighton and Hove City Council, said: “Charge & Drive is exactly the kind of practical, inclusive event that helps residents make informed choices about transport.

“Giving people the chance to test drive electric vehicles for free, ask questions and learn about charging in a supportive environment is key to accelerating the transition to cleaner, healthier travel across our city.”

The event aims to “demystify” electric vehicles and make them more accessible by allowing visitors to compare models, ask questions about range, charging and running costs and speak with manufacturers, dealers and charging providers.

Special attention will be given to public charging solutions for those without off-street parking.

Attendees will be able to talk with local charging providers about Brighton’s growing EV charging infrastructure and alternative on-street solutions.
